pokemon champion Focusing on both single and double combat, we'll show you what you can do by packing the best combat options into a single game. As you rise through the ranks through ranked battles, you can quickly see how many Pokémon are in meta positions and how many are on your best team.
For single battles, you don't have to rely as heavily on building Pokémon specifically for support, and you can just focus on strategies that don't revolve around AoE damage or other dual combat options. Here are some great single combat teams for you to try out for yourself.
Hippodon Ground Sweep
|
Hippopotamus |
Gartsov |
|
Meow Scarada |
Arcaludon |
|
hydragon |
Primarina |
Hippopotamus is a strong defensive Pokémon that can withstand a single battle. Single battles see a lot more strategic switching than most doubles battles, and Hippowdon's Yawn, Stealth Rock, and Slack Off options put pressure on your opponents to keep them in the game. Garchomp's Rough Skin ability is a threat here, with a varied movepool, great speed, and enough power to take out any enemy that switches on Hippowdon after setup.
Using Protean, Meowscarada grants STAB (same type attack bonus) to all of his moves and can clean up quickly with his speed and guaranteed critical hits. Archaludon has great coverage with very few weaknesses, and Hydreigon covers Fairy-type Pokémon that you have no choice but to swap out. Primarina is also a strong and bulky Pokémon, and when paired with Hippowdon, your opponent can have a tough time.

Twisted Hippodon Sweep
|
Hippopotamus |
Gartsov |
|
Meow Scarada |
Charizard |
|
Caesar |
Primarina |
This runs the same team as above, except it replaces Charizard and Mega Scizor. Mega Scizor with Swords Dance will deal a lot of damage. After a U-turn for a weak point and a quick saw and Swords Dance, Bullet Punch destroys the opposing team's pesky Fairy-type Pokemon.
Charizard is a special attack launch type specialist with moves that both set up and destroy opponents. It's a great swap during a single fight, and Charizard's Mega Evolution gives him free weather changes as a move to take advantage of.
Floette and Venasaur Tank
|
Benasaurus |
Floette |
|
Gartsov |
King Ambit |
|
Rotom |
Espatra |
Depending on which Pokémon you decide to use Mega Evolution on, both Venasaur and Floette have HP-draining moves that can be devastating when boosted by Espathra's Baton Pass. Both Pokémon have great speed, defense, and attack abilities, so Baton Pass allows them to destroy anything that gets in their way. This is after Esphatra has performed Calm Mind, so you will receive all bonuses from Esphatra.
Kingambit continues to be a threat with Swords Dance, Sucker Punch, and can counter many of the meta options you can find in the meta. The Supreme Overlord ability gives you a massive 10% ATK and SPA boost, and its already high base attack stat allows you to mop up any remaining Pokemin.
Risk Settings
|
Lopuni |
Primarina |
|
Glymmora |
Gartsov |
|
Corvik Knight |
Delphox |
Glimmora sets up all the hazards your opponent will have to deal with when they flip the switch. A good lead-in and high volume will allow you to get a decent hazard setup, and if you run with explosions, you'll have a strong exit. Garchomp is here for cover and attack, while Corviknight acts as a physical wall, giving opponents a hard time getting through the wall on their own. You can use Iron Head to deal with Fairy-type Pokémon, and you can easily replace them with U-Turn. Roost allows you to heal and set up quick replacements.
Mega Lopunny has access to numerous physical attack options that offer great range, as well as being powerful, fast, and with its Scrappy ability, it can attack any Ghost-type Pokémon it encounters. Primarina should continue to be included here, while Delphox is very strong and fast and is here to mop up the rest. With STAB from Psychic and Fire-type skills, you can safely clean up whatever's left.
second chance
|
Jenga |
Gyarados |
|
Gartsov |
Rotom |
|
Meow Scarada |
Mimikyu |
Gengar is great in single battles because it makes full use of Perish Song to get free KOs on any trouble Pokemon you may encounter. Gyarados has high attack power, and can almost always OHKO the opponent if it Mega Evolves and escapes its sword dance.
Mimikyu is another beast in single combat. You get a free sword dance with the ability to tank the first attack. In a double fight, you have the chance to get hit twice by your opponent, ruining your chances of utilizing their abilities. In singles, you have the opportunity to move freely. Rotom is another tank equipped with Levitate. Using Protean, Meowscarada can change his typing again to suit the situation and also gets massive critical hits. Gengar for completely removing Pokemon, Mimiku for free spins, and Meowscarada for changing typing are a great team to give you a second chance.
