Beast Of Reincarnation's small team works with external partners

Game Freak's Beast of Reincarnation is scheduled for release on August 4, 2026, as revealed during last night's PlayStation State of Play showcase. The Pokémon developer's game was first announced at the 2025 Summer Game Fest, featuring stunning visuals and fluid combat and movement.

This has led many fans to wonder how the same developers who make the Pokemon games, which are notorious for their performance issues, could come up with something like this. While the developers' hands are tied while making the Pokemon games, Game Freak has revealed a bit more about the small team working on Beast of Reincarnation.

In a conversation with Eurogamer, game director Kota Furushima explained how Game Freak divided up its resources to work on this game and other projects. “Creative direction and project management are driven by Game Freak’s employees,” Furushima explained. “However, because our internal team is relatively small, we work with trusted external partners on specific parts of the project needed to bring the concept to life.”

He said the team was lucky enough to rely on “several” external partners on Beast of Reincarnation. “Game Freak handles creative direction, technical troubleshooting, production leadership and overall project management to ensure everything runs smoothly,” he added.

In another interview last month, Furushima explained how the team keeps the game performing smoothly.

“We're trying to deliver a very specific gaming experience, visual fidelity and graphics. It's about supporting the gaming experience. This includes bug fixes, optimizations, etc. It's all about delivering gameplay and experience,” he said.

“Our focus is the gameplay experience. Of course part of that is making sure the game works really well, but our focus is more on delivering the experience to you and making sure our vision gets into your hands and minds.”
