Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launches today, and pre-release reviews suggest it's the win Ubisoft needs right now. So starting the release date with positive reviews should mean that everything is going smoothly now. Right?
Of course not. Since this is a Ubisoft release, it means there's a very unpopular monetization method going on. In fact, players are so upset about the DLC this time around that they're leaving negative reviews, so they've clearly had enough of this trend.
Assassin's Creed fans are furious about all the DLC in Black Flag resync.
At the time of writing, reviews of the game are mixed. This is a step up from a few hours ago when we found out that players were mostly negative, but it's still not the reaction you want to launch a widely anticipated game.
“What’s the point in buying the deluxe version when there’s $84.91 worth of ‘DLC’ in the game that you don’t own right away?” Read one of the negative reviews.
“Good job, Ubisoft.” Another player said: “As soon as the game is released, the content is removed from the game because it is DLC, which costs more than the game itself, and then sold back to us.”
In fact, the Deluxe Edition offers two DLC packs, but not all. By my count, there are six DLC packs sold separately from the Deluxe Edition, all priced at €9.99, with one priced at €4.99. This pack includes:
-
Hellfire Character Pack
-
Hellfire Navy Pack
-
Sea Serpent Character Pack
-
Sea Serpent Navy Pack
-
Dragon Storm Character Pack
-
Dragon Storm Navy Pack
-
map pack
Now, putting down some cash for the most expensive version of the game only to have it sold as soon as you boot it up on launch day will definitely leave a bad taste in your mouth. Unfortunately, this is what we currently expect from Ubisoft.
The negative reviews have other complaints as well. Some take issue with the 30 FPS limit during cutscenes. Some people say they found a fix for this issue by fiddling with the settings, so it may not have been an intentional decision by the developers.
This isn't the only controversy surrounding Black Flag Resync's release. This morning, it was reported that Ubisoft had made more layoffs, leaving 51 employees without their jobs.
