All the great grades of blades we know of in one piece.

Meito, also known as Legendary Swords, Famed Blades, and similar nicknames, are, as their names suggest, specially crafted blades of great fame. People who are knowledgeable about blades will recognize them immediately, and they tend to command both high prices and good users. Meito are individually “rated” based on strength and quality.

Great Grade Blades are the second highest grade blades, ranking only below the 12 Supreme Blades. There are only 21 such Meito. The five works currently known to the audience are from Wano Kuni, known for their excellent craftsmanship, and are currently owned by people with ties to the region. This list records all currently known Great Grade Blades.

6 Wado Ichimonji

One of Zoro's blades

Wado Ichimonji is a katana that has been in Zoro's possession since his efforts to become the world's greatest swordsman. It was previously used by his friend and training partner Shimotsuki Kuina. Wado Ichimonji is a work of art that my grandfather Kozaburo brought from Wano. After settling in East Blue, he helped found a village named Shimotsuki Village. Kouzaburou's heirloom was later used by his son Koushirou and granddaughter Kuina.

Kuina and Zoro were Koushirou's best students and developed a close friendship and rivalry as a result. In a serious fight, Kuina used Wado Ichimonji to completely defeat Zoro. However, she rarely celebrated, especially as she neared puberty, as Koushirou's sexist belief that women could not be proficient with a sword was associated with her. Zoro convinced her that all that really mattered was skill and determination, and the two friends swore to each other that one of them would become the world's greatest swordsman.

After her untimely death at the age of eleven, Zoro requested the sword to fulfill his promise to Kuina. Koushirou allowed this and has remained with the swordsman ever since. In a way, it's still technically a Shimotsuki heirloom, as Zoro's paternal grandmother, Furiko, was also a Shimotsuki family member. Wado Ichimonji is so remarkable that Tashigi was offended that it was claimed by a mere pirate.

5 Ameno Habakiri

Ame no Habakiri was one of Kozuki Oden's signature swords and was used in his Two-Sword Style variant. The blade has an ethereal color scheme of white and gold. This sword shares its name with the legendary Japanese katana used by the Shinto god Susanoo to slay the eight-headed serpent Yamata-no-Orochi. This distinction is possible because it was previously one of the few weapons capable of damaging Kaido in his dragon form.

This sword was made especially by Oden's father and master craftsman, Sukiyaki Kozuki. After his son's death, Sukiyaki somehow regained Amenohabakiri. Sukiyaki wants Momonosuke to wield his heirloom, but he believes he is not yet worthy of wielding his father's sword.

4 enma

Demonic Meito

• Creator: Kozaburo Shimotsuki

Enma was another of Oden's signature swords, a demonic counterpart to the more ethereal Ame no Habakiri, sporting a dark purple and red color scheme. Like Wado Ichimonji, it was previously created by Kouzaburou and is currently owned by his distant relative Zoro. Kozaburo especially thought that Enma was superior to Wado Ichimonji.

It was Momonosuke's birthright to inherit Ame no Habakiri, but Enma belonged to his younger sister Hiyori. However, Hiyori traded the blade to Zoro in exchange for Shusui.

Like Ame no Habakiri, Enma was one of two blades that wounded Kaido many years ago, resulting in a distinctive “x” shaped scar on his chest. The blade can unleash its wielder's Arament Haki, earning it a fearsome reputation. Zoro's arm was weakened until he could control it with his blade, and it appears that the lowly swordsman's entire body was weakened. Not only did Zoro once again injure Kaido with Enma, he also used it to defeat King, which is especially notable when you consider that he is a member of the highly resilient Lunarian race.

Sukiyaki claims that if Zoro can transform Enma into a permanent Black Blade, it could rise in rank and potentially become a top-tier sword. A strange detail about Enma is that its size seems to shift to accommodate the more normal-sized Zoro and the larger Oden. This discrepancy is also shared with Ame no Habakiri, but is more notable in Enma as it is wielded by two swordsmen of different sizes and can especially be seen as being proportional to one of them.

3 Nidai Kitetsu

The Nidai Kitetsu is a cursed katana of the Kitetsu school, all said to bring a terrible death to its owner. It was made by Kotetsu, the ancestor of the Kozuki clan. His descendant, Kozuki Sukiyaki, is the current owner of the blade. One of the other Kitetsu Meito, Sandai Kitetsu, is currently owned by Zoro, who discovered it in Lougetown and decided to try his luck with the blade. Notably, the Sandai Kitetsu is Zoro's only Great Grade or lower sword currently in use, being only a Grade Blade (Meito's lowest grade, the number of which is uncertain).

Kitetsu Meito seems to get lower rated the more recently it is made. Nidai Kitetsu is of a lower grade than Shodai Kitetsu, a sword made before the founding of Kotetsu, but higher grade than Sandai Kitetsu, made by a still living Sukiyaki. Sukiyaki lent Luffy his blade, and Luffy's handling of the weapon was severely criticized by Zoro. In particular, Luffy threw his sword instead of dueling someone directly with his sword. It was later rediscovered by Kikunojo in Udon and became the property of Sukiyaki again.

2 Shusui

Shusui was the symbolic sword of Ryuma Shimotsuki, the legendary samurai 'god of swords' who resembled Roronoa Zoro's ancestor and descendant. Ryuma specifically transformed the sword into the Black Blade, which was permanently infused with Ryuma's Arament Haki, greatly increasing its durability. Ryuma was buried with his sword, but when Gecko Moria robbed the tomb, the sword was confiscated along with his body.

It later appeared with its owner's reanimated body in Thriller Bark. Zoro engaged in a duel with the zombified ancestor, who eventually gifted Zoro a blade. Zoro believed that if the duel continued, his other blade would break. Zoro became particularly adept with the blade after being trained by Dracule Mihawk, owner of Yoru, another Black Blade.

Shusui has a particularly deep connection to Wano Kuni. Zorro continued to receive requests for his weapons back from people who either had them stolen from him or came from the country. Onimaru stole the blade from Zoro and returned it to Ryuma's grave. Hiyori's value was so high that she exchanged Enma, previously her father's sword, with Zoro in order to secure Shusui's position in the country.

It remains to be seen what the status of these Meitos will be, as well as whether they will have any impact on the story at all. Unlike the five currently known Great Grade Blades, it is at least possible that other Meito of this grade originated outside of the Wano Province. That said, this, along with all other details, is purely speculation at this point. Of note, Meito of uncertain grade was identified. This means that other existing great grade blades may have been seen but are unlikely to be identified at this time.
