Critical Role's outstanding fourth campaign begins with three episodes airing. The introduction of a new setting, new cast, and new Dungeon Master refreshed the show's formula and created a lot of excitement in the community.
A massive party of 13 players presented new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan with some unique challenges to overcome. First of all, when there are so many characters involved in different role-playing scenarios, it's difficult to give everyone adequate screen time.
The campaign is set to adopt a 'March West' style of storytelling, with the party split into three different tables. However, since the first four episodes are an introduction to the narrative, the party has not yet split.
The configuration of one of the tables has already been revealed. The Soldiers include Theor Pridezier (Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wickander Harlova (Sam Rigel), and Catigan Veil (Robbie Daymond).

Mulligan expertly cycled between different characters and different scenarios, but some characters inevitably received more screen time than others. Reddit's great Jaruzan crunched the numbers and calculated each character's screen time according to his definition.
“When player characters take the lead in combat, roll dice, and roleplay, the narrative is told from their perspective or is about them and/or their surroundings/background. Being in a scene does not provide automatic screen time. To count towards screen time, the player character must participate in the scene/shot, given the description above.” they wrote
By Jaruzan's count, Halandil Fang (Liam O'Brien) is the most prominent character in the campaign so far, receiving two and a half hours of screen time. This is not surprising, as the death of Halandil's brother Thjazi becomes a central part of the campaign's early story, making O'Brien a popular roleplayer.
After Halandil, the characters most involved are Teor and Wicander. These two are part of the 'soldier table' that is separated from the rest of the party in Episode 3. Since it does not appear in episode 4, the viewing time ranking is expected to change significantly. Meanwhile, Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond), Vaelus (Ashley Johnson) and Murray Mag'Nesson (Marisha Ray) have had the least screen time so far, and that's likely to change in the near future.
Tonight's episode sets out which characters will make up the 'Seekers' and 'Schemers' tables, concludes the prelude to Campaign 4, and begins rotating the tables by episode.
