A villain for the sake of a villain is fine in some stories, but if you want to leave a lasting impact, you need a villain who is a truly believable character. Their actions must be reasonable, and their reasons for doing what they do must be logical.

The thing is, it works. in infamous 2, Cole confronts The Beast and defeats it. It was a messy solution, but Kessler's plan actually worked, although it was not without casualties.
mass effect 3
How do you prevent the inevitable? oppose oneself
When faced with an existential threat like the Reapers mass Effect 3, Shepard has no will to win that battle. Especially if the Reaper is able to brainwash his allies. He needs funding, support and a figurehead to back up his play when everyone else is panicking and ready to abandon ship. In this case, that person is the Illusive Man.
Even though the Illusive Man accepted Shepard's plan (literally), he is not a “good” guy. He is a racist, a manipulative bureaucrat, and exactly the type of person you wouldn't want the fate of the world to depend on. That said, he was pretty consistently right. First of all, sponsoring Shepherd paid off. Furthermore, the Illusive Man is someone who seeks to apply Reaper technology in a way that can be used against the Reaper. Shepard is understandably opposed to having a weapon of that magnitude in the hands of someone like the Illusive Man, but even then, the weapon proves invaluable in the final battle.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
doing the wrong thing for the right reason
There are many ways a narrative can be played out. fire emblem: three houses, But for the most part, Edelgard von Hresvelg is pegged as the villain. She disguises herself as the Fire Emperor and begins a war against the Cult of Seiros, detesting their methods but even sympathizing with those who slither in the dark.
But even though she is ruthless, vengeful, and stubborn, Edelgardm is also usually right. First, she believes that Poldan's nobility is the source of corruption in the world, leading to the deaths of her parents and siblings. She also believes that the church is knowingly perpetuating that corruption. At both points she was spot on. When you actually hear Foldan's vision of a world where people are united as one people without caste or symbols, it's hard to argue against it. The problem is that her method of creating that world is extremely cruel.

At startup fable 3, This is King Logan, who is also the hero's younger brother. He is a ruthless tyrant who senselessly murders protesters, legalizes slavery and child labor, and builds a massive army by any means necessary. But you later discover that there is a method to the madness and a pretty good reason for it.

Fable 3's star-studded cast is a tough act to reboot.
Fable 3 brought some big names to its voice cast, including a handful of British acting legends, so it's going to be difficult for the reboot to follow suit.
While still a benevolent ruler, Logan helped neighboring kingdoms fight off an invader known only as the Dark. After barely achieving a temporary victory, Logan is told by a psychic that darkness will come to Albion within five years. He therefore made it his only goal to raise an army strong enough to drive it out. Unfortunately, five years isn't a lot of time to get the job done, so Logan puts aside all pretense of being a kind ruler and pushes his people beyond their limits to achieve these goals. In that context, it's fair to ask the question. What else was he supposed to do? If you hadn't come together to save the day, Logan's army would have been the only thing standing between Albion and complete destruction.
dark soul
Letting the world die just sounds crazy until you realize what salvation means.
A common trope in fantasy is that light is good and darkness is evil. dark soul Play with that concept and actually use it to trick you. Fire symbolizes light. It constitutes a bonfire, the only safe haven in the game, and according to legend, the first flame is what brought humanity from darkness to an age of prosperity. However, as the flames continued to weave, the world slowly began to become empty.
During my travels, I encountered two snakes. Kingseeker Frampt recommends defeating Gwyn, connecting the flames, and then taking Gwyn's place as ruler. On the other hand, Shadowstalker Kathe suggests that the world should be left to destruction. Naturally, that seems like an evil choice. Besides, come on. This man lives in complete darkness and his name is Dark Stalker. He's clearly bad news. But actually he is right. The never-ending chain of fire is what is causing the world to fall apart, and continuing that cycle does nothing to repair the world. Sure, destroying the world would be “bad” in and of itself, but it would allow it to be rebuilt better later rather than being trapped in an endless cycle of suffering.
persona 5 royal
Is it wrong to put someone in a perfect reality if that's what they want?
Dr. Maruki is a new addition to the list of antagonists. Persona 5 Royal. He arrives as a counselor at Shujin Academy following the shocking events surrounding volleyball coach Suguru Kamoshida, who was taken down by a group of phantom thieves. Dr. Maruki also has a secret. He has a power he calls actualization, which makes people's trauma disappear. The problem is that in order to do this, all memories affected by the trauma must also be erased.

Persona 5 Royal: All Your Confidence, Rankings in the Game
Persona 5 Royal has 23 companions that you can rank up throughout the game. Below is a ranking of each ranking based on the overall story of each ranking.
But when the Persona awakens, Dr. Maruki extrapolates the idea throughout reality, replacing everyone with a version where their trauma disappears and they live happily ever after. While this breaks the Phantom Thieves (since they no longer have trauma to bond with), it's not exactly… a bad thing. Right? Of course, it is impossible to do something that goes against one's will, but the actual goal itself is by no means evil. If Dr. Maruki gave everyone the choice to continue like this or wash away their trauma (like Sumire), there would be many people willing to take the latter.
Far Cry 5
If your prediction comes true, it's not heresy
in far cry 5, Joseph Seed is, on the surface, a typical cult leader and consequently serves as the main antagonist. He is charismatic, but cruel in his methods, and absolutely convinced that he has been chosen by God. His cult, the Project at New Eden, operates under the belief that a world-ending cataclysm called “The Collapse” is coming and that only Joseph and his followers can stop it. Of course, that's why it sounds completely crazy.
well? If you choose the Resistance ending where you fight and defeat Joseph, bombs will start dropping as soon as the fight ends. Joseph “helps” you escape and you end up trapped in the bunker with him, where the game ends. However, this ending is confirmed in canon. far Cry New Dawn, It's a post-apocalyptic spinoff in which the world is destroyed in a nuclear event that the survivors call “The Collapse.” It is impossible to say for sure what Joseph's influence was in preventing the apocalypse, but it is also impossible to say that he and his followers were wrong in their beliefs when the consequences were so obvious.
