The Lord of the Rings has an extensive history, and it's pretty clear that JRR Tolkien put a lot of work and thought into it. Of course, it's not so overwhelming that creators can't insert their own interpretations and world-building into the world of Middle-Earth, but it's pretty comprehensive.

The Lord of the Rings: Ring of Power – What is a Balrog?
We take a look at some of the most powerful and enigmatic creatures in the LOTR universe. What do we know about Balrogs from books and TV shows?
So if the creators want something that will make their hardcore fans happy and can be considered standard, they have to take a lot of things into consideration, such as time period. Luckily, The Lord of the Rings: War for Rohirrim was actually pretty easy to complete.
LotR: The Rohirrim War is set 183 years before the War of the Ring.
There's a lot of speculation about when The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim will take place, but according to the synopsis on the official movie site, it's most definitely around 183 years before the War of the Ring. This is entirely feasible, as there is a lot of wiggle room within the canonical lore, given the extensive time span of the various appendices included on the cover of The Return of the King.
If you look closely at both Appendices A and B, you will see The best year I can pinpoint is around 2758 and 2759 of the Third Age. This year is notable because Helm the Hammerhead was the last marked king of the first line.
As noted in Appendix A, next to Helm the Hammerhead's entry, “Rohan suffered great losses from invasions and long winters during the last years of his reign. Helm and his sons Haleth and Hama ) is dead.” Appendix B lists notable events that occurred during Helm the Hammerhead's reign: In 2758, “Rohan attacked from the west and east and captured it.. Gondor was attacked by a pirate fleet. The Helm of Rohan takes refuge in Helm’s Deep.” And in 2759, Helm died.. Frealaf drives out Wulf and starts the second line of the Marks of the Mark.”
Now this is where you may run into trouble. It's understandable. The Great Year (aka the year in which The Lord of the Rings takes place) is 3018, more than 250 years later.. But this isn't about using The Lord of the Rings as a marker. it is using war of the ring with markerany Started in 2941Attack on Dol Guldur and Battle of the Five Armies of Dale. This is what happened when our friendly hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, found the Ring. So… yes… the year 2758 of the Third Age is exactly when The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim takes place.
