lenovo It warned that current RAM price levels could become the 'new normal' as DRAM and NAND costs are unlikely to return to 2025 lows in the near term. This warning echoes recent announcements by other major players in the PC components market and the broader consumer electronics sector.
On June 25, Microsoft announced a price increase for the Xbox Series X/S, the third since May 2025. Following recent adjustments, the entry-level Series S will cost $499.99, the same price as the Series X product when it launched in 2020. Microsoft isn't alone in raising prices on consumer electronics, as Sony has also hiked the PS5 twice since launch and Nintendo plans to increase the price of the Switch 2 in the US, Canada, and Europe in September 2026. Memory and storage costs, in particular, were cited as key factors in the widespread wave of price increases across all consumer electronics and other hardware.
Lenovo talks about the dire state of RAM pricing.
As German outlet ComputerBase reported, Lenovo told attendees at ISC 2026 in Hamburg that DRAM and NAND prices will never return to mid-2025 levels even after major new manufacturing facilities begin operating in 2028. A company official reportedly exaggerated the word “absolutely” during the presentation, a remark that drew laughter from the audience. Nonetheless, the broader predictions were clear. The worst of the ongoing global RAM shortage could end by 2030, but the market could settle into a higher pricing benchmark from then on.
The current situation has been brewing for some time and RAM prices have already soared out of control by the end of 2025.
