On November 20, 2020 Boruto: Naruto Next Generation In episode 52, Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto unleashed the strongest form in Naruto's history, surpassing even Otsutsuki, known as Baryon Mode. This transformation was accomplished by Naruto's tailed beast, Kurama, and was achieved by the two using their chakra as a kernel and combining them to create an entirely new form of energy similar to nuclear fusion. The power of Baryon Mode was enough to completely overwhelm even Isshiki Otsutsuki's overall power. However, this form had its drawbacks, Naruto: Next Generations Chapter 55 led to Kurama's death on February 19, 2021.
Five years have passed since then, and finally Boruto: Two Blue Swirls It gave us a much deadlier transformation than Naruto Uzumaki's Baryon Mode. These changes come with Kawaki's latest upgrade. This allows him to instantly switch between his highest form of defense and attack while utilizing the full potential of Isshiki Otsutsuki, making him officially the strongest of the ninja species.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 35 Officially Set for Kawaki's Invincible Karma Transformation
Kawaki utilizes the power of karma in battle. When he was young, he was branded by Jigen and used as a vessel, but after Isshiki Otsutsuki died. Boruto: Two Blue Swirls Episode 53 Kawaki was freed from this karma. To protect Naruto Uzumaki, Kawaki reintegrated this karma into his body and used it as a pure weapon in Boruto episode 65. With this weapon, Kawaki was able to save Naruto Uzumaki, but he once again succumbed to this power.
“Is it helplessness that irritates you? The sadness of losing karma? So take it for yourself, especially now that Isshiki is gone forever. A new power in the form of a weapon.” — Amado forces Kawaki to reintegrate Karma. Boruto Chapter #65
During the Boruto time skip, Kawaki's control over his karma increased dramatically, as evidenced by all eight spokes of the wheel shown in the Kokugan Dojutsu. Currently, Kawaki is one of the most powerful characters in the world, but his overall power is set to increase even further with the latest upgrade proposed by Amado in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 35 on June 18, 2026.
Kawaki's offensive abilities are greatly limited by Amado, who wants to keep Kawaki alive for the sake of his daughter Akebi. Kawaki's current settings are 85% attack power and 15% defense power. Early Boruto: 2. Blue Vortex, Kawaki was mostly defensive and only had a few stats for offense, which made him incredibly weak. However, Amado's latest upgrade allows Kawaki to be set to 100% attack when offensive output is needed and 100% defense when defensive ability is needed.
“The values weren't just changed on the screen. We actually adjusted the combat ability parameters. The system was set up so that you could modify the settings remotely, on the fly, all by yourself, via a toad around your neck.” — Amado proposes a massive upgrade to Kawaki's power, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #35.
This transition between attack and defense is instantaneous, meaning Kawaki can switch freely during combat between these two forms. This power-up can always be achieved by attaching a toad to Kawaki's body. As long as this toad is attached, he can freely switch between Kawaki's attacks and defenses at will, making him almost invincible.
in Boruto: Two Blue Swirls In Chapter 35, Amado himself states that as long as his defense is at 100%, Kawaki is nearly impossible to kill, and will regenerate within seconds from even the most severe injuries. On the other hand, his 100% power output is enough to overwhelm even people like Jura in battle. In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 24, released on July 17, 2025, Kawaki is shown to be able to overwhelm Jura in battle with only 85% of his attack power. Add another 15% to that and Kawaki will be much stronger than before and in doing so, surpass Naruto's Baryon Mode.

Why Kawaki's New Transformation Beats Naruto's Baryon Mode
Kawaki's new transformation, which allows him to switch between attack and defense 100% instantly, is definitely more powerful than Baryon Mode. This is due to the characteristics of the baryon mode itself. In terms of offensive capabilities, Baryon Mode is incredibly powerful and can kill the majority of enemies. In fact, the offensive output of Baryon Mode was such that Sasuke officially confirmed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 52 that his offensive abilities were far superior to Isshiki's.
However, the price for Baryon mode is huge. The more Naruto utilizes it, the more chakra he burns and the closer he gets to death. Although Baryon Mode was only used in one battle, it led to Kurama's death and weakened Naruto Uzumaki forever. Therefore, Baryon mode has a very strict time limit in which Naruto has to finish off his enemies. Kawaki, on the other hand, faces no such problems. Even though his 100% attack is not as powerful as Naruto Uzumaki's Baryon Mode, he can simply outsmart him in battle due to his 100% defense ability. Naruto's strongest attacks don't do much damage to him due to his massive defense, and once Baryon Mode starts to weaken, Kawaki gains the upper hand, making him the better transformation of the two overall. In terms of attack power, Berion Mode still reigns as the most powerful transformation seen in the story, but overall it is weaker than Kawaki's new invincible Karma transformation brought about by Amado due to its shortcomings and time limit.
The biggest drawback of Kawaki's ultimate transformation is connected to Amado.
Kawaki's transformation is incredibly overwhelming, but it also puts him in considerable danger. The biggest downside to this new power is that he puts all of his power in the hands of none other than Amado. As long as Amado's Toad is attached to him, only the scientist can instantly switch between attack and defense in battle. This means that scientists must remain in close contact while the battle is ongoing. Kawaki cannot switch between attack and defense on his own. This means that Amado can easily let Kawaki die if he wants to, or he can impose conditions on him that the young ninja must follow since he has absolutely no influence in the overall situation.
It's likely that Amado will go rogue at some point, betraying Kawaki and rendering his newly acquired powers completely meaningless. In the end, Kawaki is not a true ninja because he does not train for his abilities. He has merely been upgraded by scientific means, which makes him the exact opposite of Naruto Uzumaki's ninja ways. In a battle of wills, Kawaki doesn't even hold a candle to the Seventh Hokage and has no intention of ever doing so.
