Xbox Exec Announces “More Changes” Than Ever Before

As if there weren't already enough changes happening under the hood of Xbox, we expect a lot more changes to come in the future. To be more specific, there will be “more change” in the next few years than Xbox has achieved in the past 25 years.

At least that's according to ID@Xbox director Guy Richards, who spoke at the Digital Dragons Conference 2026, which GamesRadar attended.

“We believe there will be more change in the next few years than in the 25 years we have had to get here,” he said.

So what will that change look like? Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. But recent developments show that nothing is off limits.

Xbox 360 20th Anniversary Retrospective

The Xbox 360 may not have sold as many as the PS3, but it was definitely the most influential console.

It's been 20 years since Xbox 360 first entered our lives.

For example, Xbox decided to bring back the iconic green image and include it in a dynamic background for users to show off. The company also ditched its highly maligned “This is Xbox” advertising campaign and rebranded itself as XBOX instead of Xbox.

In a more substantive change, Game Pass received a price cut, but it also meant that Call of Duty was no longer the date and time. Elsewhere, a feedback website has been set up where fans can post about what they want to see most. There was also a decision to shut down Copilot AI on consoles.

It doesn't address bigger issues the company is grappling with, like teasing a return to exclusivity or a return to the backwards compatibility program. Heck, the change could even be the new version of the Elite Controller that was leaked over the weekend.

That's not all Xbox has planned, Exec says.

In addition to announcing a few changes, Richards also highlighted the fact that the company is planning “a lot of things throughout the year” to celebrate Xbox's 25th anniversary. One such plan will see the return of the popular FanFest event, which will be held for the first time during next month's Summer Game Fest.

“We’ve already had a few announcements, including bringing back FanFest,” Richards said. “There are a lot of exciting things we’re doing all summer and we look forward to sharing more about them.”

Ultimately, this is all about “positioning Xbox for the next 25 years.” This will undoubtedly include Project Helix, the company's next-generation console, as well as other plans it has yet to announce, such as games or programs such as the return of backwards compatibility.

“We will continue to meet the players where they are,” Richards added. “The world continues to evolve and change, and we’re committed to making Xbox a great place for developers and players.”

Buckle up, Xbox fans.
