PS5 PlayStation Store is undergoing big changes

Sony is testing a new PlayStation Store layout. PS5 In addition to adopting other novelties, it also uses much larger image thumbnails. Assuming these changes, which have yet to be officially confirmed, eventually make it to all PS5 users, the full redesign would be the biggest PS Store rework in five years.

November 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Sony launching the PlayStation Store. Aside from minor revisions, Sony's digital marketplace has gone through three major redesigns over the years, with major UI overhauls often taking place around the start of a new PlayStation console generation. The most significant of these changes occurred in 2008, 2012, and 2020.

PlayStation Store redesign spotted on PS5

Sony may be preparing another major redesign, with the company now testing the new PlayStation Store interface with select PlayStation beta users. The updated UI was first revealed on April 11, when user Gaming_bo3gg posted a screenshot of the store's Browse tab. Unlike the current layout, which places users in a dense “All Games” grid designed for quick browsing, the latest beta version gives fewer titles much more prominent features via large horizontal feature cards. In doing so, it appears to focus on volume and efficient use of screen space for a more curated feel, similar to the modern Netflix interface.

The beta menu's top carousel contains fewer games than the current PS Store interface, but it also provides more information about highlighted titles, including description tags that identify genre and other features. For example, People of Note displays terms ranging from “RPG” and “turn-based combat” to “stylized,” “story-rich,” “colorful,” and “3D.” Meanwhile, Starfield has tags such as 'open world', 'RPG', 'rich story', 'cinematic', and 'space exploration'. Additionally, the carousel cards come with a one-line blurb that essentially acts as a logline for that particular game.

The latest PS Store beta build also added mood and genre-based search sections right below the new description carousel. This is another Netflix-esque touch after the streaming giant rolled out mood-based catalog browsing to select beta users in spring 2025. The overall PS Store tab structure appears to be unchanged, including sections for latest releases, collections, deals, and PlayStation Plus-related news. The beta interface is reportedly limited to the PS5 version on digital marketplaces. Sony hasn't publicly acknowledged this, suggesting a wider release may not yet be approved. There is currently no indication as to when that could happen.

The latest PS Store beta layout includes autoplay videos

Another change reported in the new layout has to do with selection behavior, with all game tiles in the carousel said to automatically start playing trailer footage when highlighted. Currently, the few user reports describing this feature do not specify whether the video will be muted, but this is the expected default by modern UX standards. As of April 12, the experimental PS Store layout appears to have been applied to some beta users in Europe and North America, with no sightings reported elsewhere. Separately, Sony is also testing a new PS5 home screen layout that appears to be available to the same users who see the latest PS Store redesign.
