I'm already mourning DreamSnaps at Disney's Dreamlight Valley.

Of course, I have never been the creative type. when it came Little Big Planet In the franchise, I've always played other creators' levels instead of creating my own, and Media Molecule's similarly ambitious levels were no different. dream. to minecraftI tend to have a friend or loved one do the building work and then I gather the materials for them or do the interior work of their finished piece. And when I make something, animal forest On an island, you're often satisfied once you're done, rather than motivated to keep being clever. But I always had a grateful heart. Disney Dreamlight ValleyBecause DreamSnaps is a constant source of clever ideas within the relaxed gaming scene… That's why I've been so frustrated with this product lately.

While I'm playing a ton Disney Dreamlight Valley It was out of my rotation at launch, but that didn't stop me from following the game. And more specifically, the DreamSnaps community. Every week, I'll watch as my fiancée spends hours creating her ideal shot, giving me feedback when asked, but generally being fascinated by her work. And so is the DreamSnaps subreddit. We'll both be looking back regularly to see some great snaps that don't appear in her voting pool. But unfortunately, while more and more players are being ignored for their great photos, the photos my partner spent time taking aren't doing as well as they used to. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be bad luck. That's because this feeling of unfairness goes hand in hand with Gameloft's recent changes to the DreamSnaps system.

DreamSnaps is a weekly photo contest launched on July 19, 2023. Disney Dreamlight Valley The community creates and takes photos of scenes that match the theme of the time.

Disney Dreamlight Valley's DreamSnap changes have proven problematic.

DreamSnaps are generally a fun and optional activity, but they reward players with Moonstones, a currency used for Star Path and in-game store purchases. Since players receive at least 300 moonstones just for participating, some players even take selfies with their phones instead of following the set theme. This is always a shame to see (especially when players have to vote between two users who didn't try), but this picture is at least less likely to succeed compared to those who tried. Or at least it did, as players who put in a ton of effort were finding that their success rates were lower than they were before the system was overhauled.

Here are the changes on paper: Disney Dreamlight ValleyDreamSnaps looked great. with DDVThe Puppy Love update changed DreamSnaps to be determined entirely by player votes. Previously, Moonstones would improve if players had a certain number of tagged items in their photos, but now it's up to the player to determine the photo quality. In theory, this is a good thing because photo creation is less restricted because tagged items are now not mandatory. However, while the idea that removing tags would be beneficial may seem plausible, it actually seems to do more harm than good.

The first way to use tags is as follows: Disney Dreamlight Valley's DreamSnaps essentially gave players a “cushion” in case they got unfairly swayed in that state's vote. Maybe it was paired with a truly amazing photo and they weren't one of the many players who called, or maybe their DreamSnap wasn't pushed out to many gamers for whatever reason. In the old system, you would have made good use of tagged items, so you would still have gotten a lot of moonstones despite the lower-than-expected placement. But now if the vote doesn't go their way, they're simply out of luck.

New DreamSnap Problem Proof in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The other issue is shown in the image above from nueroredditor. Despite creating a truly breathtaking composition, they only received 900 moonstones, the lowest reward “in months.” Most users who took to the comments were shocked, with some pointing out that players may have issues with taking full control of the vote. Essentially, the community decided that the beach theme represented a New England vibe that left little room for interpretation. This meant that anyone who tried to do something different, such as NueroReditor's extravagant costume instead of a sailor's costume, might not have been treated fairly. This is just a theory that commenters like Kind-Fun6939 have shared to explain why a cool photo like this only received 900 moonstones. But it makes sense that conformity is rewarded… even though it's exactly what the new DreamSnap system was trying to avoid.

This isn't the only example of players struggling to understand the changes. The image above from DreamSquid shows another 900 Moonstone payout for a themed photo. To give you a personal example, my fiancé also got her lowest score in weeks, despite following the theme. Like the two Reddit users above, she received significantly less Moonstone than she received before the change. You can see the DreamSnap below. What makes this even more frustrating is that those who don't try will likely receive the same amount (or slightly more) of moonstones. And if people who try continue to get less for their efforts, the cozy gaming community will feel frustrated and fewer people will work hard with DreamSnaps.

DreamSnaps' Moonstone payout needs a change, and it needs to come soon.

Personally I'm not sure what the answer is. Gameloft may have to go back to the tag system or rework the entire voting system. Many players dislike the way similar photos are paired up early in the week, forcing them to use skips, and then continually putting them in a situation where they vote for the low-effort photos. There are definitely a lot of great DreamSnaps out there in the community that aren't even public, so it would be helpful to see or tag some of the photos that put a lot of effort into them. Unlimited skips can also be a worthwhile change. But based on the results of the beach photos, I feel like this: what It must change.

It might be a little early to lament DreamSnaps, but I'm genuinely worried that low-effort creations will become more prevalent as people who put hours of effort into their recent photos feel like they're not being rewarded. Things may get better once the new system is in place, but it's hard not to feel the difference of thousands less moonstones for making the same quality. Fortunately, there are people out there who just love digital photography skills and don't care about moonstone payouts, so if they don't do anything about the in-game voting process, they'll at least have recourse to the DreamSnaps subreddit. Still, it would be nice to hear complaints after Gameloft switches to player voting. Because the new format is making what many people looked forward to doing each week less attractive.
