Reliable gaming insider Jason Schreier has clarified his recent comments about a possible Grand Theft Auto 6 delay. Many people mistakenly took this as a sign that another backlash was likely.
If there's one question that's been on everyone's mind for the past few months, it's whether or not GTA 6 will end up with its current November 19th release date. Rockstar has been quiet about the game for some time, and there are many concerns about it being pushed back to 2027 following two surprising delays last year.
With so much fear surrounding the topic of delays, it's no surprise that Bloomberg reporter and trusted insider Jason Schreier's comments on the matter caused quite an uproar. On the latest episode of the Button Mash podcast, Schreier noted that “it's really hard to say right now” whether the game will reach its release date, especially since Rockstar is aiming for perfection.
“It’s impossible to overstate how ridiculous this is”
Schreier also said that November 19th seemed like a more realistic release date for GTA 6 than last May, but many took his comment that the game wasn't finished yet as a sure sign that the game would be delayed again. At Bluesky, Schreier shared an article claiming a delay was possible, which he noted was a “complete misunderstanding” of what he was saying.
How GTA 6's delay affects the gaming industry
The overall release schedule changes with each GTA 6 release, so how will the latest delay affect everything else?
Schreier said:won't “Shocked” for GTA 6 do It follows the same delay pattern as Red Dead Redemption 2, so it's expected to release sometime this fall. He pointed out that the original point was that since it's a video game, “of course another delay is possible,” and that's a very important point for both Rockstar and Take-Two.
In another post, Schreier pointed out how “stupid” it was that so many rumors of another delay broke out after his remarks, with Polymarket giving a 66% chance after the podcast. Schreier also noted that Take-Two stock fell $4.26 due to “rumors that GTA 6 would be delayed based on a podcast that didn't say GTA 6 would be delayed.”
All of this is to say that Schreier's comments point out that with game development being as tumultuous as it is, let alone Rockstar games striving for perfection, no one (not even Rockstar) can be sure that GTA 6 will reach its planned release date. There's no need to worry about a potential delay right now, especially since Rockstar itself hasn't yet shared anything substantive about this year's GTA 6.
