PlayStation is promoting a pirated Resident Evil clone called Ebola Village.

From the world-renowned Indie_Games_Studio comes Ebola Village, “a classic 90s survival horror game with a focus on atmosphere and player immersion.”

Even those of you who, like me, are involved in everything that happens in the game, will even remember the font used for the game's core art by the strangely named studio Ebola Village, a shameless copy of Resident Evil.

Sequel to Legendarily Offensive SNES Game Removed from Steam

The game failed three appeals to Valve.

The store page of the Steam version released in May is full of expressions that make you wonder if this is due to a translation error. The artwork generated by artificial intelligence is clearly labeled as being from a “neural network” and there are warnings against players of “feeble minds” delving into the twisted world of Ebola Village.

Ebola is a virus that causes various symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhea. It spreads through body fluids and can have a high mortality rate in areas where treatment is not readily available.

These days you can post anything.

If you thought Steam would be the final destination for Ebola Village, you're mistaken. The official PlayStation YouTube channel has uploaded a trailer for Ebola Village as the Resident Evil clone gets closer to its January 23 PlayStation 5 launch (good spot, Insider Gaming).

This disappointed commentators who couldn't believe PlayStation was actually promoting the title.

“Official PlayStation accounts advertising genuine rip-off games may hit a new low,” one commenter wrote. “What are we doing here?” Another reflects negatively on the proliferation of slop in modern gaming stores.

Ebola village Las Plagas enemy las plagiarism

Although Ebola Village is first-person, many of the scenes shown in the trailer will be familiar to Resident Evil 4 players. Similar to Las Plagas in Resident Evil 4, there are a few enemies where villagers throw axes, swing chainsaws, and have parasites exploding from their heads.

Copying Resident Evil's font, combined with the jankiness of everything shown in the trailers, means we can't give Ebola Village the benefit of the doubt and pretend it's a tongue-in-cheek product of its inspiration.

PlayStation's promotion of the title is puzzling, to say the least, and it begs the question of whether trailers are reviewed before being posted to the brand's YouTube channel.
