Persona Studio Director Hopes to Unveil “Future Developments” Next Year

Persona Studio Director Kazuhisa Wada has revealed that one of his ambitions for 2026 is the opportunity to announce “future developments” for the series. surely I mean Persona 6.

Persona fans have had enough to keep them going nearly a decade since Persona 5 was first released, but that hasn't stopped us all from asking one question. Where the heck is Persona 6? Sega and Atlus have made it very clear that the next big game in the series is in the works, but we haven't seen anything concrete other than a green leak.

Rumors about Persona 6 finally being announced have been floating around for years, leaving fans of the series both excited and disappointed whenever nothing happens. Well, maybe it's time to start looking forward to 2026. Because big things are more likely to be announced than ever before.

Now that 2025 is almost over, 4Gamer.net has shared its annual collection of year-end interviews (translated by Gematsu) with prominent Japanese game developers, usually centered around their hopes for the new year. As always, several Atlus developers were featured in the interview, and studio director Kazuhisa Wada had some very interesting things to say.

Gamers deserve to enjoy Persona 6 before the Persona 4 remake

How many times can fans play the same game before they get tired?

When asked about his ambitions for 2026, Wada pointed out that this year will mark Persona's 30th anniversary and that there will be “a variety of initiatives on a global scale” that fans can look forward to. It's been too unremarkable so far, but Wada went on to say that he thinks 2026 will provide an opportunity to “talk about the future development of the series.”

We also believe that in 2026 we will have the opportunity to talk about further developments in the series. Preparations are progressing step by step, and all ATLUS executives and staff will do their best to create excitement for Persona, so we ask for your continued support. – Kazuhisa Wada

Considering how long it's been since the Persona games have been out, I can't help but think that Wada is referencing the long-awaited Persona 6 here. It's likely a reference to the Persona 4 revival, but Atsushi Nomura explicitly mentions all the support and excitement for it in interviews, suggesting it's not really a “future development” in the same way a new mainline game is.

We'll have to wait and see what 2026 brings for Persona fans. But considering the 30th anniversary, the incredibly long wait since the last mainline game, and Wada's comments, it actually seems quite possible that Persona 6 will finally be announced next year.
