The story is one of identity, experience, and the essence of reality, and the non-linear composition highlights these broader themes. It's a pretty elegantly crafted narrative that puts players in uncomfortable situation after uncomfortable situation, and even forces them to do things they don't want to do. It's a shame it hasn't made it to consoles yet, even though the facial manipulation mechanism works best on a mouse. It's not a very technically demanding game and it doesn't cost much, so if you have a “decent” PC, this is an experience you can't miss.
