Arc Raiders has a skill tree that branches out across three paths: Conditioning, Mobility, and Survival. You only have 75 points to spend, 1 point per level, and there is no way to reset your points until you gain fame. This makes the skills you take very important, and while we're all still learning the game, there's a clear winner when it comes to skill trees.
Like a true scrub, I jumped straight into the path without a second thought. In a game where you enter and exit raids as quickly as possible (without dying), moving faster is the answer, right? But it turned out that mobility wasn't really that useful and I was sleeping on the best skill in the game. Security breach.
Free Epic Loot
You can open Security Breach by using the Security Breach skill, which is located right at the end of the survival tree. Find out. These are additional loot chests that spawn in loot-rich areas, usually rooms opened with keys.
For example, the control tower on the dam battlefield. With efficient execution, it is sometimes possible to hit two or three of these violations in a single attack. This task is made easier because not everyone has the skills. This means that compromised containers typically remain intact even at very late stages of the raid. Each is filled with Epic loot.
I've gotten enough Vulcanos and Hullcrackers out of this container that I don't have to worry about taking epic loot with me to the raid. The way you play Arc Raiders has completely changed. Rather than a scared little baby worrying too much about my precious blues, I'm just taking a few of my best guns on a raid without a second thought. The way we approach PvP has changed. Confident, angry and ready to tear people to pieces with Bettina.
All my blue loot is sold, so any Renegade or Venator I find is immediately converted to cash. My coin income has skyrocketed. I am constantly working to build up Caravan's reputation. Just because a technical reset can prepare you for a security breach and skip all mobility options. Now it's time to transform into a full-on loot goblin.
The survival tree is so good that you can even craft items during raids. Running out of bandages or shield rechargers while fighting Arcs? Have no fear. The survival tree allows you to craft these abilities during a round.
The skills are truly overwhelming
I would even go so far as to say that this technology is truly broken. Epic loot should feel like a huge reward, whether it's grinding resources, finding lucky blueprints, or hitting the jackpot every dozen raids. The Security Breach skill sort of negated the great excitement I got from looting. Sure, I still need to defeat the queen and craft some legendary gear, but my inventory is already packed with enough loot to last me until December.
Rather than nerfing the Security Breach skill, it would be better for Embark Studios to buff some of the other skills in the game. The minimal health buff you can get from the mobility tree, or a little extra health boost when you reach serious health from the conditioning tree, feels completely useless compared to the security breach. A complete mobility tree should be able to jump around like a roadrunner. Conditioning should provide much more utility.
But I'm a huge fan of Security Breach, so I hope the rewards for getting through the tree are really worth it. It's expensive (you'll need 30+ in Survival alone), but it's worth it in the end. If you're continuing through a level in Arc Raiders and aren't sure which skill tree to choose, survival is 100% and you're nowhere near done. Please join me. Become an epic loot gremlin.
