A new leak has revealed details about the next-gen product. xbox A “Magnus” processor that could give the console a higher price tag but deliver better performance than the PlayStation 6. With the current console generation coming to an end, all eyes are on the next generation, and both Microsoft and Sony have confirmed that hardware is in the works, but are staying tight-lipped on details. Now it looks like the next Xbox will lag behind the PS6 in price but beat it in terms of performance.
Despite some rumors to the contrary, Microsoft has confirmed that it is actively working on a future Xbox console, even though it has chosen to partner with ASUS for its new handheld games. But beyond that, the company hasn't provided many details about what to expect. There have been comments that it is similar to a PC and confirmation that AMD will participate, but there are not many specifics about price or performance. A new leak may provide more insight.
The leaker claims that the Xbox Magnus APU will outperform the PS6 hardware, but will increase the cost of the console.
In an October 8 YouTube video, notable hardware leaker Moore's Law Is Dead took a dig at Magnus. AMD is making processors for the next-generation Xbox and claims it will be more powerful than the PS6. Magnus will reportedly be the largest APU of any gaming console in history, and more importantly, it will boast a whopping 68 RDNA 5 compute units, up to 11 CPU cores, and up to 48GB of GDDR7 RAM. In a previous video, Moore's Law Is Dead claimed that the PS6 will feature up to 48 RDNA 5 compute units and 8 CPU cores, so Xbox will have a clear advantage in specs. Moore's Law Is Dead expects this to improve performance slightly, but says the difference may not be as noticeable when playing on a large TV rather than a monitor.
The video also hints that the next Xbox's hefty hardware will cost a pretty penny, with Magnus estimating the next-gen Xbox could cost upwards of $800, potentially reaching $1,200. This might be unwelcome news, considering that Microsoft recently raised the cost of the Xbox Series The point is that it may be closer to a PC competitor than an alternative.
Making the next-gen Xbox closer to a gaming PC than a traditional console is consistent with early rumors about the system. Of course, nothing is certain until Microsoft makes an official announcement. It may be a while before that happens, as current rumors suggest that the new Xbox could be released in 2027. However, this too has not been confirmed at this time.
