ZA Comp When January 29th comes

Pokemon Legends: ZAThe Mega Dimension DLC doesn't appear to be receiving any major updates in the near future, other than new rewards, free item codes, and ranked seasons. However, this can fundamentally change how the game plays and how it feels when playing, especially depending on how the competitive meta changes. Pokemon Legends: ZASeason 6 of is set to begin soon on January 29th, and the massacre has already been confirmed. With the addition of a few new metawarping legendaries, the game will never be the same, and all the fun you've had from ranked battles will probably come to an end.

Before we get into how limited legendaries will impact the meta, let's set the stage by reviewing the Season 5 meta. Currently, the game centers around powerful attackers that can attack powerfully and quickly, such as the Sword of Justice, Volcanion, and Magiana. with Pokemon Legends: ZA's Mega Evolution still has a significant role to play, and while it's clear that the focus is on strong offensive threats, the approach has been balanced with defensive checks and counterattacks.

Volcanion provides both mass and attack power, and often executes fire and water moves to bash a variety of enemies. This is a difficult Pokemon to beat, especially if it is a Fire/Water type.
Magearna is a favorite choice due to his high special attack and wide movepool, allowing him to serve as both an offensive and support asset for his team. We also got a new Mega Evolution in the game.
Armarouge finds himself in a similar position thanks to his Fire/Psychic typing and the ability to land heavy blows while using items like Expert Belt, Life Orb, and Assault Vest combined with powerful moves like Armor Cannon, Psychic, and Meteor Beam.
Swampert was a solid choice in terms of both offense and utility thanks to his access to Earthquake, Waterfall, and Stealth Rock. A reliable choice for many teams.
Swords of Justice were a staple of high stats, offensive versatility, and the ability to strike hard with skills like Close Combat and Sacred Sword.
Baxcalibur is a great answer to many of the threats in the meta, and once boosted with Swords Dance, it can deal massive damage even to targets that don't have very effective damage.
Gartsov is Pokemon Legends: ZAIt is currently the most OP Pokemon. That's because it has incredible stats, a very powerful Mega Evolution, and can be used with a variety of items to improve damage or survivability.

The meta has been shaped by these powerful attackers, but the upcoming release of limited Legendary Pokémon will shift the focus from maintaining balance to managing overwhelming power. Although this is limited to one per team, it is still a problematic addition from a balance perspective. Restricted Pokémon are as follows:

Xerneas enters the scene as a Fairy-type powerhouse with access to Moonblast and Geomancy. It may not have abilities like Fairy Aura, but Pokemon Legends: ZAXerneas still provides an incredible offensive presence. The ability to set up Geomancy, a skill that increases both special attack and movement speed, can sweep a team when set up properly. Xerneas can overpower current attack staples like Sword of Justice and critters like Garchomp and Baxcalibur with Fairy-type moves, as Moonblast is very effective against Fighting and Dragon types.

The current meta relies heavily on strong attackers, Pokemon Legends: ZA's Xerneas will force teams to prepare a response to a potential sweep. I expect we'll see more Steel and Poison types being used as defensive answers, or with more priority users trying to shut them down before they become a threat. Despite this, it has an extensive movepool, including Thunderbolt and the new TM. Pokemon Legends: ZAThis is DLC.

One of the most iconic Pokémon in the franchise, Mewtwo packs massive offensive power with a 120 base special attack and a versatile movepool that includes Psystrike, Shadow Ball, and Calm Mind. from PLZA's Mega Mewtwo Y dominated the meta in Season 3, and it's likely that the Pokémon will rise to prominence again in Season 6.

Why you shouldn't sleep on Zygarde in Pokemon Legends ZA

In Season 6, Zygarde's combination of massiveness and power will make him a powerful defensive option against the likes of Xerneas and Mewtwo. While it doesn't boast the legendary abilities of other games, its massive stats and impressive movepool give it the flexibility to fill both the wall and hitter roles, making it a solid choice for both defensive and offensive setups. Mega Zygarde also has an incredible base special attack of 216 and an OP move, so he can also quickly wipe out opponents once his Mega form is triggered.

How Groudon and Kyogre Can Destroy Their Competition in Pokemon Legends: ZA

With reduced abilities Pokemon Legends: ZAGroudon still provides one of the strongest offensive presences in the game. Precipice Blades, Fire Punch, and Stone Edge provide excellent coverage, and Groudon will certainly remain the dominant physical attacker. Ground and Fire movement pools allow you to hit Fire, Steel, and Rock types incredibly hard. Additionally, you will also have access to Primal Groudon.

Without his raw sea abilities, Kyogre still represents one of the most consistent special attackers in the game. Origin Pulse, Ice Beam, and Thunder allow you to have great coverage and unleash powerful attacks against both attacking and defending teams. Kyogre utilizes special attacks to break through walls and fills the role of a bulky Water-type attacker to counter Fire-types like Groudon. Primal Kyogre will still be the best choice for most teams with few counters.

Pokémon Legends: ZA's Mega Rayquaza is about to break games.

Even without the ability, Rayquaza still boasts incredible speed and attack range. Dragon Ascent and Extreme Speed pose a huge threat to anything that can't outspeed or use priority skills. Rayquaza's combination of flying and dragon skills will put tremendous pressure on the current meta, where dragon and flying types are still very relevant. More importantly, Pokemon Legends: ZARayquaza does not have a Mega Stone, but Mega Evolution is possible simply by using Dragon Ascent as an action.

Perhaps more importantly, anyone can use the item when using and fighting Mega Rayquaza. Focus Sash prevents Ice-type moves from being able to one-shot, and the same applies to buff moves from Xerneas, Garchomp, Baxcalibur, and other common meta threats. That addition could be your moment of success. PLZA's competitive scene unfortunately can't go back.
