xbox Console prices may soon rise, according to gaming industry insiders. Xbox prices have already increased twice in 2025 due to tariffs, but the next potential hike could be due to the ongoing shortage and price surge in DRAM memory kits that has affected the entire tech industry.
During the second half of 2025, prices for DRAM memory chips have soared across the board, making it difficult for consumers to purchase the RAM they want. These price increases and resulting shortages are driven by continued demand for DRAM from OpenAI and other AI-based companies, which has led RAM manufacturers to allocate more of their power supply to AI servers and infrastructure. As a result, consumer prices for DDR5 desktop memory kits soared more than 200% throughout the fall. Despite some Black Friday deals going on on PC components in general, there's no prospect of consumer peace of mind when it comes to DDR4 or DDR5 RAM kits.
Critically acclaimed PS5 console exclusive Shadow comes to Xbox
The critically acclaimed PlayStation 5 exclusive console has been overshadowed by the Xbox Series X/S after its release date was recently leaked.
Xbox console prices could skyrocket due to persistent RAM shortage
The rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, but gaming industry insiders say Xbox is already suffering from the ongoing RAM price hikes. Moore's Law Is Dead said in a YouTube video on November 20 that Microsoft “had absolutely no plan” for the RAM shortage issue and that Xbox console prices could soon skyrocket again. Moore's Law Is Dead It didn't specify when or how much Xbox Series X/S prices would change. Throughout 2025, the Xbox Series Xbox Series S consoles are currently available for as low as $379.99, while Xbox Series X is available for $599.99. The price increases for Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass have sparked criticism across the gaming industry.
However, Moore's Law Is Dead adds that a price increase for Xbox's main competitor, the PS5, may not yet be imminent, as Sony appears to have enough DRAM to meet consumer demand during the holiday shopping season. Given that PS5 consoles are discounted by up to $100 on standard PS5 systems for Black Friday, it's not yet known whether Sony will raise prices.
Although Xbox is offering Black Friday discounts on the following games: fallout 76 and The Outer Worlds 2Unfortunately, there is no such offer for the Xbox Series X/S consoles. Only time will tell what Microsoft's plans are for its remaining Xbox console inventory.
