CD Projekt Red will be debuting a new Witcher 4 showcase at Unreal Fest this June, giving us a closer look at the hotly anticipated sequel.
The Witcher 4 was first announced two years ago at The Game Awards with a CGI trailer featuring an older Ciri as the new series' protagonist. We've seen very little of the game since then, and what we've seen so far is from select tech demos that don't represent the final build.
As reported by DSO Gaming, this doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. CD Projekt Red announced their Unreal Fest appearance on the latest episode of their podcast, and the team didn't reveal whether the footage shown would come from in-game or a tech demo, but given the nature of the event, the latter seems more likely.
What to Expect at Unreal Fest
Unreal Fest is about “bringing creators and developers from a variety of industries together to share ideas, strengthen projects, and grow networks,” so it's unlikely that CDPR will use it as a platform to showcase its gameplay.
After the Cyberpunk 2077 mess, The Witcher 4 developer emphasizes that the game may not look like a tech demo.
The Witcher 4 tech demo represents CDPR's current approach, but the final game could look very different.
Another tech demo highlighting UE5's capabilities seems more appropriate since the team has been working closely with Epic to improve the performance of large-scale open-world games running on the engine. However, this is just speculation and CDPR has come out with a gameplay trailer, which may give us our first real look at The Witcher 4 in action. We will find out in a few short months.
The release date for The Witcher 4 has not yet been confirmed, but CDPR has announced plans to release the game by 2025 or 2027, so marketing is expected to be hot this year. CDPR is aiming to release the entire Witcher trilogy within six years of The Witcher 4, so hopefully the wait for future games will be a little less intense.
