The Bloober team came to prominence with the release of Layers of Fear, a somewhat loose take on the Picture of Dorian Gray. Since then, the team has become best known for the horror games it has created. But Layers of Fear was already a few games deep as a studio.

14 Best Retro Horror Games
Fear is timeless.
With Silent Hill 2 Remake now established as the best game in their portfolio, it seems like an appropriate time to look back at all the games they've made since their founding in 2008. Here's a look at all of Bloober's games, ranked by how good they are. We think so.
The Bloober team later gave the studio several additional games while absorbing the developers who created those games. This game is not included.
14 hospital chaos
The first game Bloober Team created was a Diner Dash style mobile game for hospitals. There isn't really much to say about this game. It exists as a game that feels more like an exercise in creating an actually functional game than something with deep artistic merit.
It's all here, even in the least well-executed games.
13 Master of Music: Chopin
You may have heard of the famous composer Frédéric Chopin. Born in Poland under the name Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin, he spent most of his life in France and other parts of Europe and became a famous composer before his untimely death at the age of 39.
He is such an incredibly famous figure in Polish history that the Bloober team created Music Master: Chopin in 2010 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth. The game is a relatively simple rhythm game with some classic elements.
12 basement crawl
Basement Crawl was created and released by Bloober Team in 2014, just two years before Layers of Fear. At this point, they had a pretty firm control over game production as a whole, as they had made a few other somewhat mediocre but still decent games.

Split screen isn't exactly synonymous with PS4 or PS5, but there are some shining examples!
The basement crawl was not like that. It had an interesting form of gameplay at its base, but it didn't really differentiate itself much from its Bomberman inspiration, and there was very little content to actually play with.
It was so criticized that Bloober remade the game into the much more well-received Brawl a short time later.
11 amen
A-Men is a very simple game, a single-player puzzle platformer that, through its own store description, attempts to convey the difficulty of previous games in the genre like Lemmings. So is this okay? what.
It feels more similar to Worms in some visual aspects and is marketed as a non-casual game. Even though it is a niche market, it is cheap and easily available.
10 A-Man 2
One person wasn't enough. Now there are two people. A-Men 2 is the sequel to A-Men, and that's really all that can be said about it.
It's more of an expansion than a completely new title. If you want to try it yourself, it will be a much more daunting experience.
9 Deathmatch Village
Bloober Team's early games were a mix of real-world content. Deathmatch Village is one of those oddities. It's a multiplayer game that feels somewhere between Happy Wheels and Worms while playing as Rednecks.

24 Best Multiplayer Shooting Games
This is the best online shooting game if you want to compete with your friends.
For some reason there are a lot of pigs. There are a lot of guns. It was such a bizarrely popular game that I played it for a while without knowing it was made by Bloober Team. It's nothing ambitious, but it's simple fun anyway.
8 brawl
Remember the basement crawl from earlier? This game is a remake of Brawl. Imagine Five Nights at Freddy's being cel shaded and featuring Bomberman gameplay and Brawl summarized pretty well.
Playing as one of eight supernatural characters, you can challenge your friends in multiplayer or play a unique campaign for each character. It's a dramatic improvement on Basement Crawl, but it's not the most attractive game in the world.
7 layer 2 of fear
Now we're at the point where Bloober's games reach a higher level of ambition. I'm trying new things, although I'm not always successful, especially on the writing side. And that brings us to Layers of Fear 2.
It doesn't have the same clarity as the original game that made Bloober Team popular, but it does try something new visually. The Ocean Liner may not have the same depth of horror as The Painter's Crumbling House, but it's a definite step toward something new.
6 Layers of Fear (2023)
When Layers of Fear was announced, there was a bit of confusion as to what it was. A 2023 game, not the original. As you know, Layers of Fear 2023 is a remake of the original game, somewhere between a remake and a remaster of Layers of Fear 2, and a sequel. It's an embarrassing package.

10 Best Realistic Paintings That Paint Layers of Fear in 2023
Art imitates art.
It's a visually beautiful upgrade, but it's somewhat hampered by a lack of clarity about what it actually is and the somewhat clunky way the two games come together.
5 blair witch
The Blair Witch series really shouldn't exist. The first film was a masterpiece for what it attempted to do, but every film that came after ignored the films that made the earlier ones and never caught lightning in a bottle again.
So who better to take on the job again than Bloober Team? To be fair, this is the best Blair Witch game, and in reality the best Blair Witch product since the original, but it still ended up being a somewhat uneven game with too many jump scares. Still a good dog.
4 Layers of Fear (2016)
Now, this is the game that catapulted Bloober Team to the pinnacle of the horror genre. I think it's a good game in many ways. It has fun visuals, a unique system for achieving endings, and a compelling narrative told through an unreliable narrator.
The biggest problem with the game lies in the story. It is a large part of the Painting of Dorian Gray, but it is rather poor, and in the end it is more of an ego massage than an admission of the artist's own faults. His daughter in the DLC is a much more attractive character.
3 medium
Following the fame of Layers of Fear and Observer, the Bloober team created The Medium. It was touted as a game that would only be available on next-generation (at the time) consoles and fulfilled the vision of dual worlds existing simultaneously. And in fact, the game has been in development since 2012 and never really got off the ground.

Is there anything more scary than being alone?
Sure, The Medium is visually pleasing and a huge step forward in Bloober's gameplay, but once again falls short in its storytelling. This may not be such a serious problem, but it can be problematic due to the fact that your writing needs to be robust enough to withstand psychological horror, which is doubly important when dealing with such heavy topics.
It was also later released on the Nintendo Switch, which is either an engineering marvel or an admission that it doesn't really need a next-gen console.
2 observer
Shortly after Layers of Fear came Observer, a game that many still consider Herald to be the best game Bloober has ever made. In fact, it moved away from the more traditional forms of psychological horror that were so dominant and instead moved towards a dystopian future.
Observer moved away from pure exploration and focused more on other gameplay mechanics, such as hacking other people's minds. Stealth also had a prominent role, being criticized for its overuse, despite still being much higher than most of Bloober's other works.
Observer was remade in System Redux in 2021, reworking many of its criticized elements, chief among them its stealth features.
1 Silent Hill 2 Remake
Following Bloober's trend of remaking their own games, the team has now remade other people's games. Rumors have been floating around for years that Bloober would be remaking the iconic Silent Hill 2, and I was completely disappointed when they announced that they would be remaking the horror classic. But they delivered anyway.
In many ways it doesn't have the feel of the original, but it does a great job of maintaining the game's themes and even reinterpreting them in a way that doesn't distort or misrepresent them. Regardless of its quality as a remake, there is a night and day difference to Bloober. Finally, unanimously, we made a good game without any stars.
