Super Mario Galaxy debunks the fox legs theory.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie makes it very clear that Fox McCloud didn't have his legs amputated, as he himself says in his preface that he has “awesome space boots.”

If you're a Star Fox fan, there's a non-zero chance you've heard the old fan theory that Fox McCloud and the rest of the crew all had their legs amputated. This surprisingly dark idea originated from the original game's artwork that showed Fox and others incredibly metallic-looking boots, leading many to think that the Star Fox team had metal legs to combat the cosmic G-force.

Of course, the reality behind it is that it's just a work of art to show how cool Star Fox is, but that hasn't stopped the theory from becoming popular. The former Nintendo developer recently revealed that Miyamoto heard this theory and thought it was absurd, and now Mario Galaxy Movie is also quick to debunk it.

Star Fox has confirmed that he will only be wearing “cool space boots” in the Mario Galaxy movie.

Cool, but not as cool as robot legs.

Star Fox from the Mario Galaxy movie. nintendo

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which was released in theaters a few days ago, may not live up to the expectations of many Mario fans, but it's a great treat for anyone hungry for Star Fox. While Fox McCloud is introduced in the movie, he basically sells himself to Peach and Toad with an epic backstory explaining how he exists in the Mario universe (or galaxy, etc.).

Fox concludes his story by successfully reminding everyone why Star Fox needs to return (in fact, it's rumored that it will return later this year), while also noting that he has “nice space boots.” It's a fun way to end his big speech with a minor detail about his character, but it feels a bit purposeful.

The theory that Fox McCloud and the rest of Star Fox had their legs amputated may be an old theory that has little bearing on the team's most recent appearance, but it's still a known and shared theory. It's a bit like Nintendo taking the opportunity to debunk it for both long-time fans and those who are being introduced to a character for the first time.

Of course, I'm assuming the same goes for Nintendo. worry About denying such an old theory. It's possible it was just a happy accident, but we at least know for sure that Fox McCloud is just wearing space boots and doesn't have the kind of dark history that everyone else was theorized about back in the day.

Brie Larson is right. It's time for Hollywood to start respecting video games.

As a lover of video games and all things Nintendo, Brie Larson knows how Nintendo intersects with Hollywood.
