Say what you want about the Sonic series. But the soundtrack always delivers. mostly Anyway, if you ignore Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood it always delivers, but that's about it. Every other game is full of bangers, and many of the biggest hits revolve around fan-favorite character Shadow.
So it's no surprise to her that 2024's Year of Shadow brought a huge streaming boost to Sonic's music. According to the Sega Sound team, Sonic music is experiencing something of a resurgence thanks to increased interest in games and movies.
Sonic Music is better than ever.
According to My Nintendo News, the Sega sound team revealed this in an interview with Billboard Japan. Here, composer Tomoya Otani, who has worked on everything from Sonic Adventure 2 to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, says the latest film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, “definitely had a significant impact on streaming numbers.”
Others agreed, noting that Ryo Kinoshita (Sonic Forces, Sonic x Shadow Generations) doesn't just benefit from the songs featured in the film. “What’s interesting is that even songs that aren’t directly featured in the film are seeing growth,” he says. “This time, the story focuses on the character of Shadow the Hedgehog, so the soundtrack and tracks related to Shadow from past game titles get a big boost.”
It's easy to see why. Shadow not only features live & learn in the movies, but also great works like All Hail Shadow and I Am… All Of Me. Then, once you start playing, I recommend checking out other Crush 40 songs like Open Your Heart and Knight of the Wind (which I will always defend as one of the best Sonic songs). After that, there are all the other artists whose work has appeared in the series, with songs like His World, Dreams of an Absolution… Yeah, I get it. I see your point. there is many There's some good sonic music there.
Sega clearly knows this, as they jumped on the Video Game Orchestra World Tour bandwagon pretty early. Fingers crossed Sonic Symphony will get to tour again someday. If you go, don't expect it to be as quiet and collected as the rest. The audience regularly cheers when a graphic playing behind the performers shows Maria being shot.
