Slay The Spire 2 is the 20th most played game in Steam history.

A week ago, we were all surprised when Resident Evil Requiem hit a whopping 344,214 concurrent players on Steam, making it the most played Resident Evil title on Steam and one of the ten most played primarily single-player titles on the platform.

A week later, Slay the Spire 2, the sequel to the hugely popular loose-like title, told us to drink beer. That's because the indie title became the 20th most played title on Steam by the highest number of concurrent players of all time after its release on March 5th, the same date as Marathon.

Yes, you read that right.

Slay the Spire 2 had a whopping 526,793 concurrent players just over 10 hours ago as of this writing, making it the 20th most played title on the platform. Its peak surpassed several other record-breaking titles, including Arc Raiders and the aforementioned Resident Evil Requiem.

This is a Steam deck with an orange background.

Steam Deck is the first of many low-RAM tragedies in video games.

Valve's handheld is currently out of stock due to lack of RAM and memory.

It is very important to remember that this is an Early Access title. This means that the final product has not yet been released. But that didn't stop players from showing up in droves to play.

Assuming the title costs $24.99 USD and all prices remain relatively the same across regions, that's over $12 million for developer Mega Crit. Again, this game has only been out for 48 hours.

The marathon has not yet reached its original heights.

It's truly amazing that we've been able to double the number of concurrent players since Slay the Spire 2 was released. Because the Marathon has yet to match its peak of 88,387 on PC.

Currently, Marathon has 73,045 players, which is not a small number. The 24-hour high is 78,498. However, both of those figures are only 10,000 less than the peak of 88,337 players, at least on Steam.

Originally, Mega Crit had some funny things to say about Bungie on social media after it became increasingly clear that Slay the Spire 2 was more popular than Marathon. However, Slay the Spire 2 attracted 177,181 players compared to the aforementioned 88,337 players for Marathon.

Few could have predicted that Slay the Spire 2 would go on to add hundreds of thousands of dollars, reaching $500,000 and entering rarefied Steam territory. And that's exactly what happened. Propulsion is a very important factor, and Slay the Spire 2 has it in abundance.
