Silent Hill 2 Remake is now out on Xbox without an official announcement.

We've known that Silent Hill 2 Remake has been coming to Xbox for some time due to leaks and rumors, and a store page has been revealed that even includes a release date. The release date is today, and despite not being present at the Xbox Partner Showcase and not being officially mentioned by Xbox or Konami, Silent Hill 2 Remake is currently available for Xbox Series X|S.

After not seeing it at Thursday's showcase, I woke up this morning expecting to receive a message from a rumored leaker saying that the Xbox release date for the Silent Hill sequel has been moved. At least I thought there would be posts from Xbox and Konami celebrating the end of the iconic horror game's PS5 exclusive.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is out now on Xbox. You can actually buy it and play it.

Instead, I received posts from confused leakers and Xbox users who discovered that Silent Hill 2 Remake's Xbox Store page was posted without any mention of Xbox or anyone involved in creating the game. With the game releasing first on the Australian Xbox Store, confusion began to swirl before its US release date. In just a few hours, you can now use it anywhere.

Not only is Silent Hill 2 Remake available on Xbox, it's half the price. That means one of the most famous remakes of the last few years can now be played on Xbox for the first time for $35 instead of the usual $70, and it seems like Xbox and Konami are relying entirely on people discovering the store listing and sharing good news, rather than providing people with information.

I'm sure there will be some kind of official announcement before the end of the day (honestly, that might be too strong a word), but this is still strange. Store listings have been in the works for weeks, so missing them from the Partner Showcase is a confusing decision. This was especially true when the showcase lacked a big closer. People already knew it was coming, but Silent Hill 2 would have been a great way to up the showcase with “The Last Thing.”

I'm beyond trying to understand the thought process that goes into the Xbox marketing strategy at this stage, but this step has me puzzling more than usual. In an age where platforms are routinely mocked and criticized for porting every exclusive to PS5, here's an example of a PS5 exclusive coming to Xbox and I couldn't even bother to schedule a tweet to let everyone know.
