2025 was a pretty good year for video games. Throughout the year, bangers have been releasing and surprising us. We released Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 at the beginning of the year, and indie gems like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Dispatch got us into the holiday season nicely. They all, to be fair, have won the most awards, but when it comes to Steam leaderboards, there can only be one winner.
But despite how much of an impact games like Clair Obscur and Dispatch have had on the 2025 gaming landscape, neither of those games ended up being the highest-rated game of the year on Steam. It may have been named Steam's Game of the Year, but so was Hollow Knight: Silksong. If you take a look at the leaderboard, you'll see some lucky little early access indie games that made a splash back in March.
Schedule 1 beats Clair Obscur to become Steam's highest-rated game of 2025.
Yes. Clair Obscur dazzles with its amazing soundtrack and gripping story, but it's Schedule 1 that takes the top spot as the highest-rated game on Steam in 2025 (thanks to GamesRadar). The game currently holds a 98% rating after 268,000 reviews, with a score of 6.02, beating out games like Dispatch and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
In reality, these two games aren't even in second place. Repo is one of only two 2025 games to appear on Steam's list of most played titles this year. Dispatch is next in third place, followed by Clair Obscur in fourth, followed closely by Deltarune and Peak.
Steam has released its 2025 bestseller list, and 9 of the top 12 are multiplayer games.
Sorry single player fans, but you're outnumbered.
Now you might be wondering where exactly Hollow Knight: Silksong ranks on this list. It was Steam's Game of the Year, so you'd expect it to rank high. Unfortunately for all of you, Silksong isn't even in the top ten. In fact, it barely made the top 20, as it ranked 19th, below the likes of Supermarket Simulator, Wobbly Life, and Stellar Blade's Steam releases. Hey, it's higher than Nubby's Number Factory, so that's a win, right?
In all seriousness, Silksong's surprisingly low ranking on this list is most likely due to a few factors. That's due to the rather poor Chinese translation and the brutal difficulty level, which was much worse when the game was first released. These two alone will likely drag down the game's rating, especially when compared to other titles like Dispatch and Clair Obscur, which have never seen any controversy surrounding the game itself.
Still, it would be very interesting to see a couple of smaller Steam games like Schedule 1 and Repo beat highly rated powerhouses like Dispatch and Clair Obscur. At least it's refreshing to see a game win against Clair Obscur now.
