Pokemon Firered and Leafgreen was recently re-released on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, much to the delight of new fans and veterans alike who were finally able to play the 2004 game's Kanto region. However, this is a direct port of a Game Boy Advance title, and that has its good and bad points. Players can still enjoy the Sevii Islands and iconic Gen 1 content through Gen 3 gameplay, but completing the Pokedex can be difficult or downright impossible, at least for the National Dex. To actually catch them all, you'll have to trade locally with other players. Pokemon Firered and LeafgreenExclusives in your version cannot be found in the opposite version.
The problem is Pokemon Firered and Leafgreen There is no clear winner for version exclusivity. leaf green It's even better because it includes Slowpoke and its evolutions. So, these animals will not be available when the Gen 3 game is released again, so you can transfer them to the Gen 3 game. on the other side, fire red There's Arcanine, one of the best mons in Kanto, and some of the more popular animals overall. However, there are mainly two rare exclusives: Electabuzz and Magmar. However, only one of them can be caught early on, and the other one is mostly for completing the Pokémon Pokédex.

Electabuzz from Pokemon FireRed is much better than Magmar from LeafGreen.
You can get Electabuzz from: Pokemon Firered and LeafgreenMagmar, a power plant that can be accessed immediately after obtaining Surf's HM, is only found in the Ember Mountains. In FireRed, Electabuzz has a 5% encounter rate on Power Plant, but you can use a level 35 Pokemon as the leader in your party and any backlash, and only allow Electabuzz to spawn since the rest of the Pokemon are lower levels. The encounter at the power plant is as follows:
- pikachu (Both versions, level 22-26, 25% spawn rate)
- Magnemite (Both versions, level 22-25, 30% spawn rate)
- now (Both versions, level 31-34, 10% spawn rate in FireRed, 15% in LeafGreen)
- Voltov (Both versions, level 22-25, 30% spawn rate)
- Electabuzz (FireRed only, level 32-35, 5% spawn rate)
Here's the thing: Electabuzz is much more accessible than Magmar. This is because the latter is also a 5% encounter. However, it is only found on Mount Ember, which can be used at least after defeating Blaine. In contrast, Magma can only be obtained before the Viridian City Gym. Pokemon Firered and LeafgreenThis is not ideal for using Magma since you are dealing with a Ground-type Pokémon.
Why you shouldn't use Magma in Pokemon Firered and Leafgreen
More importantly, Electabuzz is still a very good Pokémon. Fire red and leaf greenAlthough it is superior to Raichu in most cases and has niche uses with its ability to learn psychic magic that Raichu does not have. Electabuzz is useful when dealing with a variety of water types. Fire red and leaf greenOf the Elite Four, there's also Lorelei and Agatha, and they also have some very good uses against Lance and Champion.
Instead, Magmar is vastly overpowered as a Fire type compared to Arcanine. Pokemon Firered and LeafgreenEven if you only count the monsters available in LeafGreen, Ninetales' movepool and higher speed stats make her an overall better choice. Additionally, Magmar is surrounded by Lorelei, Bruno, and Lance, and can only do something against Agatha if taught Psychic. You'll have a hard time against champions most of the time, and by the time you level up and train properly before Elite 4, Ninetales or Charizard are much better anyway.
