The latest PlayStation 5 system software isn't available to the public at the time of this writing, but it looks like PlayStation has started testing a new user interface feature that aims to make navigating the home screen menus much more streamlined and user-friendly.
The latest PlayStation consoles are now entering the latter stages of their life cycle, but the PS5 is still receiving new firmware updates on a regular basis. The most recent patch was released last month, on March 17th, and brought the console to version 26.02-13.00.00 with some handy new features and improvements. The update, available now to all PS5 users, improves PSSR on the Pro version of the console, resulting in sharper, clearer visuals in select games. We've also added some new Welcome Hub features, such as new emojis for messages and a new Showcase mode that allows users to display a full background view of the Welcome Hub when their PS5 is idle.

Home screen layout redesigned with PS5 beta update
With major changes and improvements to the PS5, PlayStation often tests them through its beta program. Although there has been no official announcement from the company beforehand, it looks like a new beta update will be released for some users that will change the layout of their console's home screen. One Reddit user who said he signed up for the beta program appears to have received a new update with tweaked house designs on April 6. As you can see in the post above, the main horizontal section of the home screen is now dedicated to games and the Welcome Hub, while the PlayStation Store, PS Plus, and other media have been moved to a smaller section above and can be navigated using L1 and R1.
Fan reaction to the redesign has been quite positive, as the new layout looks much sleeker. “It looks neat,” one user said, while another said: “Wow, this looks really cool! Very sleek! Thank you to the design team.” Some have even speculated that the new design could be a sign that the theme is progressing. This is the most requested feature by PlayStation 5 users since the console launched in 2020. PlayStation has given fans special PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes for its 30th anniversary, but many are still desperate for additional customization options.
One user pointed out that with PlayStation seemingly moving away from PC ports, the company needs to “entice” users to stay with the PS5. Earlier this year, a report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier said Sony was “lagged” in bringing its own titles to PC. The reporter points out that this mainly has to do with the following upcoming single-player games: saros and Marvel's WolverineThese will be the two biggest PS5 exclusives of the year. PlayStation has yet to comment on the matter, but Schreier speculates that the company's PC port wasn't successful enough to continue pushing.
