If Pidgeot taught us anything, it's that Flying-type Pokémon are usually stuck with boring secondary types. But luckily, Pokemon Legends: ZA brings back some of the most powerful options from the entire series. The base game gave us a solid group of Flying-type Pokémon to enjoy, but with the release of the Mega Dimension DLC, Pokémon with Mega Evolutions became much more valuable.
Rogue Mega Pokemon dictates the Mega Dimension's metagame. Because the best way to defeat these rampaging rogue Pokémon is to fight fire with fire. You can Mega Evolve and take advantage of a Flying type Pokemon that can deal heavy damage to the Rogue Mega Pokemon bosses you will face during your journey in Hyperspace Lumiose.
Although it includes flying-type Pokémon from the base game, the context of the Mega Dimension DLC heavily influences the new batch.

Flamigo may be one of the most bizarre Pokémon ever created. In the end, it's basically just a flamingo that doesn't know how to spell, but a closer look at the statistics tells a different story. This Pokemon's attack stats stand out as the clear leader in base stat totals (BST), and its secondary Fighting type means it can utilize a wider variety of ranged moves.
Pokemon Legends: ZA – Mega Dimension: How to Get Runigus
Who puts forward these evolutionary requirements?
Luckily the Fighting and Flying weaknesses don't overlap, resulting in a quadruple weakness, but you don't get a lot of defensive resistance from that combination either. If Flamigo had had access to the same features as the main series games, it might have been much higher on this list, but it still serves as a decent option to have early on in your Hyperspace Lumiose adventure.

Crobat is one of the best Flying-type options added in the Mega Dimension DLC, but since this Pokemon's defense is very weak, it's best used against opponents who don't have many coverage moves. Fortunately, Crobat's incredibly high base speed of 130 means he can usually attack multiple times in succession, ending fights quickly.
However, you end up relying on physical moves like Aerial Ace, Dual Wingbeat, and Sky Attack, which aren't as good as more powerful options like Hurricane. Despite its limitations, Crobat will provide powerful Poison-type coverage throughout the DLC, allowing you to choose your team flexible enough to compensate for its weaknesses.

Talonflame's BST isn't all that impressive, but luckily his high speed allows him to use a lot of attacks to start the fight, which can be the difference between a quick win and a long encounter. Unfortunately, this fire and flying type bird is still waiting for its mega evolution. Or maybe it was one of the most powerful Pokemon available in the Mega Dimension DLC.
Nonetheless, the physical attack capabilities are solid and will help you get the job done early on in the DLC. However, you'll quickly find more versatile options to choose from. Especially if you don't like working with a quadruple weakness to Rock-type moves. Talonflame's movepool is its biggest strength, with access to a variety of coverage moves along with Dual Wingbeat and Sky Attack.

Corviknight represents the antithesis to Crobat. These Pokémon are Flying and Steel types, the latter of which directly resists poison attacks. Additionally, Crobat is a fast Pokémon that focuses on attacking as quickly and often as possible, while Corviknight is much slower and its main draw focuses on tanking hits and reducing the opponent's HP bar.
Corviknight's attacks may not be great, but this Pokemon is a great tank that can act as a pivot when your main attacker is downed in battle, while also giving you a chance to heal and reload for a counterattack. Complete immunity to poison attacks and ground attacks goes a long way in making this Pokemon great as a wall, and the eight additional resistances allow it to be in danger against just a few types.

Hawlucha is a direct upgrade to Flamigo, the main difference being that this Pokemon has access to the powerful Mega Evolution. This significantly improves a fairly tame BST. Hawlucha boosts its attack power to 137 when mega-evolving, and provides an additional boost to both its defenses, ensuring it can hold off long enough to block hits and finish off its opponents.
Mega Hawlucha's 600 BST does a lot of the heavy lifting, but its access to a variety of physical moves, including Brick Break, Brave Bird, and its signature move, Flying Press, allows it to pummel many enemies. Mega Hawlucha can effectively take on Rogue Mega Pokemon, and its survivability in main story battles justifies its inclusion in the DLC from the beginning.

Charizard may struggle with Rock-type attacks, but this Pokemon offers a huge upgrade over Talonflame thanks to its excellent BST and access to two Mega Evolutions. However, Mega Charizard Y is a solid choice for excellent Flying-type survivability, as it receives a massive boost to its stats that allows it to unleash powerful attacks with its hurricane-like moves.
159 Special Attack is an incredibly strong starting point, and with over 100 in both defense and speed, Charizard stands out as one of the best Flying-type Pokémon. Utilize powerful special attacks and watch opposing Pokemon melt away with barely a scratch as long as Charizard stays away from his Electric and Rock moves.

When it comes to Mega Pokemon options, Staraptor is one of the best new Mega Evolutions added to the Mega Dimension, despite not surprising you with its BST in its base form. When Mega Evolving, Staraptor's attack jumps to 140 and its defense, special defense, and speed increase significantly.
Tank hit ability is key for Pokemon capable of Mega Evolution. This is because if you refill your Mega Energy and pass out in Mega form, you will need to Mega Evolve again. Luckily, Staraptor has much better survivability and doesn't suffer from quadruple weakness.

Rayquaza stands far above the pack as the best Flying-type Pokémon in the Mega Dimension DLC and the best Pokémon among its legendary companions. BST is already impressive, but Mega Rayquaza can use powerful signature moves like Dragon Ascent and Hurricane to annihilate enemies weak to flight.
The only downside to this Pokemon is how long it will take to encounter it, as it is only accessible towards the end of the DLC post-game. Despite the wait, it's worth it, as Rayquaza's strengths trump its competitors in almost every category.
