Pokemon Go celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Pokemon Go's anniversary focus is now on its 30th birthday, which is just two days away, but the build-up to Pokemon Go's 10th anniversary has already begun. The Memories in Motion season begins its festivities next month and will bring some very welcome and long overdue changes to how trainers encounter shiny Pokémon.
The biggest of Pokemon Go's upcoming shiny changes has to do with evolved Pokemon. Aside from a few examples centered around special events, shiny versions of evolved Pokémon have never spawned in the wild in Pokémon Go. If you want a shiny evolved Pokémon, you need to find a shiny version of the first Pokémon in the evolution chain and evolve it.
For example, catch a shiny Sprigato and evolve it into a shiny Floragato.
Evolved shiny Pokémon are released into the wild
Niantic has never explicitly explained why Shiny Evolutionary Pokémon aren't spawning in the wild, but some theories appear to be holding some weight. Most believe it's all part of the desired mane. Niantic wants you to “acquire” evolved shiny Pokémon by first catching basic shiny Pokémon and then evolving them yourself.
Well, 10 years later, Niantic is confident you've tried hard enough. From March 3, 2026 On the first day of the upcoming Memories in Motion season, shiny evolved Pokémon will begin appearing in the wild. You won't trip and fall when taking a walk in your local park. Because it's so shiny, it'll still be rare and hard to find, but it's probably out there somewhere.
The only caveat is that you must have already debuted in the game before it appears in the wild.
Another big and shiny change is coming to Pokemon Go
Another big change in Shiny Hunting, which will be introduced on the same day in Pokemon Go, is that you must go to the place where you have the highest probability of encountering Shiny Pokemon. Starting March 3, Shiny Pokémon will have a higher chance of appearing through eggs and raid battles than in the wild. The odds of finding a shiny Pokémon were previously tied to each species. Starting next season, the as-yet-unknown odds will be determined by the means by which you find the shiny Pokémon.
Third and finally, Pokémon rescued through encounters with Team Rocket in Pokémon Go can also sparkle. However, this only applies if your Pokémon's Shiny has already debuted in Pokémon Go. Previously, you could only receive shiny Pokémon rewards from Shadow Raids and battles with Rocket Leader. Now, Go Rocket grunts may also have shiny Pokémon to store.
It's fair to say that Niantic hasn't always made decisions that have pleased the Pokemon Go fanbase in the first decade since its release. Less than a week later, news that special currency would be required to unlock Super Raids sparked outrage from those still playing. A shiny change scheduled for next week could keep the wolves out of Niantic's Pokemon Go doors for a while. Because it seems like a positive adjustment that will increase your odds of finding something shiny as we head towards Pokemon Go's 10th birthday.
