Pokemon Presents has revealed the next generation of Pokemon. Generation 10 was just confirmed in a showcase, teasing the next mainline game in the Pokémon series to be released in 2027.
As it turns out, the leak was completely accurate. The next Pokemon game is called Pokemon Winds and Waves, and the new region has a tropical theme. We saw a lot at the reveal, along with some of the new Pokemon that will be part of this generation.
Pokémon Wind and Wave Revealed with New Starters
According to the reveal trailer, the three new starters are:
- Grass Type: BROUT
- Water Type: Gekua
- Fire Type: Pombon
In terms of gameplay, the series certainly seems to be sticking to the open world design of the last few games. From what we've seen so far, it doesn't seem like a huge improvement compared to before, but it does seem like there are more changes in the environment.
But what's interesting is that we can only see the Nintendo Switch 2 logo in the trailer. In fact, now that it's been confirmed that Pokemon Wind and Waves will be an exclusive Switch 2 release, I'll be skipping the original Switch entirely. We hope this will help developers get the most out of the next-gen consoles.
There aren't any more details than this at the moment, but here's the synopsis shared after the showcase:
“Developed by Game Fresk exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, this new title features an explorable open world of beautiful windswept islands and vast oceans with sparkling waves. Living in harmony with the region's lush environments, Pokémon have developed their own unique ecosystems. During this adventure, you will team up with Pokémon of all kinds to overcome the difficult path ahead and the forces of nature that sometimes stand in their way.”
Details about Generation 10 were previously included in a major Pokemon leak last October. It was titled Wind and Waves, and the leaked material also included some story content. This region is said to be inspired by Indonesia and Southeast Asia, and the story revolves around the concept of 'infinity'.
Of course, aspects of the story we saw in that leak may have been reworked since. The leak also contains early story details for other games that didn't make it into the final release, so it could be a draft.
This will be the first new Pokémon generation since Generation 9, which originally offered Scarlet and Violet on the Switch. These games received a lot of backlash upon release due to numerous performance issues and a general feeling that the games needed more time in the oven. Let's hope Game Freak gets the time it needs to make Gen 10 a true advancement for the series.
