While taking monk classes Path of Exile 2 Equipped with a quarter staff by default, players can finally use their bare fists instead of a large stick. Straight from the game's true skill forest, the Hollow Palm Technique passive allows players to use quarterstaff skills with unarmed attacks while also expanding their offensive stats with defensive abilities, often leading to surprisingly solid late-game builds.
Below is an early campaign/leveling version of the unarmored Lightning Monk build. PoE 2 Delivers incredibly high DPS output with a fluid gameplay loop.
Path of Exile 2: Best Skill Gems for Monk Builds
The Monk is one of the best melee classes in PoE 2 thanks to its access to incredible CC and incredibly high DPS through skill gems. Next is
PoE 2 Hollow Palm Monk Leveling Build
There's a lot going on in this build, especially in the early stages. Before we look at the late-campaign/early-game builds, let's first look at each setup.
Gusts of wind and staggering palms
For most of Acts 1 and 2, it is recommended to use:
wind blast,
shaky palmsand
jumping shock Used as the main damage skill. Wind Blast deals damage in a large area, and Staggering Palm uses it to strongly stun enemies, then boosts all attacks.. Vaulting Slam deals heavy AoE burst damage to already heavily stunned enemies.
This playstyle is also very similar to the build you will use in Act 3 and above. So you don't have to worry too much about changes to the way the final build itself plays. It has a lot more range than the Bear Druid build, but is also a lot squishier.
Grab the Tempest Flurry and use it instead of your normal Quarterstaff Strike attack.. This attack can hit and impact much faster and causes Staggering Palm's wind blast much faster.
You can use any support gems you want for these abilities, but Rapid Attack and Rage are recommended for Wind Blast.
Lightning Damage Conversion
once you get
storm waveyou can Equip this instead of Wind Blast and focus on building up elemental damage bonuses through support gems. (i.e. via Elemental Armaments and Rage). At this point in the game you are powerful enough to fly. PoE 2Assuming you have enough flat damage bonuses for your gloves and rings, play through the campaign and melt down bosses very quickly.
We're also replacing Staggering Palm with Siphoning Strike to generate Power Charge, and we're removing Vaulting Slam in place of Falling Thunder to deal massive AoE Lightning damage.
Charged Staff
The moment you get Charged Strike is the moment your build really comes online. This provides a particularly large buff to Tempest Flurry's damage. However, you won't be able to survive just standing there and taking damage while punching, so you'll have to rely on Storm Wave for the most part.
How to Generate Power Bills
The build is
the illusion that remains This is the main way to generate a power charge. This is a Spirit skill. This means that if you want to use it with the Herald of Thunder, you'll need to complete the Tribal Vengeance quest in Act 3 to get the item that increases your maximum Spirit to 60.
Lingering Illusions leaves a duplicate of itself after dodging. When this clone is destroyed, it leaves behind a blue ball that provides a power charge when picked up. If you don't forget to pick up an orb, you'll basically always get a power charge.
Siphoning Strike is a great way to get Power Charges with this build since it will inflict a lot of impact. Or use:
battle frenzy and equip yourself
electrocutionSupport a gem on one of your damage abilities. you also Resonance passive changes Frenzy Charges to Power Charges.

How to Play Build
Spam storm waves to eliminate mobs and deal ranged damage, and use Tempest Flurry + Tempest Bell to fight bosses. Continue to use Absorbing Strike and Lingering Illusion to gain Power Charges.
passive tree
The following passive tree settings are for a level 45 character.
I can't stress enough how much of a glass cannon this build is in the early stages of the game.. If you play this like a melee build you'll likely die a lot, so keep your distance and spam dodge rolls whenever you get the chance.
Focus on getting the following first:
- concussion attack
- unimportant
- 10x attack
- killer instinct
- conservative casting
- ghost ward
- dazzling blow
- agile succession
- trick mask
- Hollow Palm Technique
The passive tree setup includes 4 Strength, 8 Dexterity, and 2 Intelligence nodes.
To summarize, these passives simply increase damage, evasion rating, and energy shield.. Daze and Blind from Concussive Attack and Blinding Strike also contribute to overall survivability.
Prioritize your routes based on your needs.. If your equipment deals enough damage, it may be a good idea to pick up a defensive passive like Immaterial first. Otherwise, take something that increases damage instead.
Continue leveling up and working towards Lightning and Critical Strike passives. Use mana regeneration when necessary.
When should I take Hollow Palm?
Regarding leveling, This won't be a problem if you use the Hollow Palm Technique.. In our playthrough, we immediately moved in that direction, making it available as early as level 14.
When using the Hollow Farm technique, your attacks will take additional physical damage based on your skill gem level.
ascension
This build uses Invoker Ascendancy for a bonus to lightning damage and the Meditate skill, which can be used to recharge and overflow energy shields. The latter is useful in the campaign and early stages of the game, but will eventually be replaced by the Sunder my Enemies passive, which allows you to ignore enemy resistance on critical hits. Once you get the fifth and sixth points, get I Shall Rage for the Unbound Avatar skill, which is great for fighting bosses.
equipment
Hollow Palm doesn't require you to equip any weapons in your hand slots, so you don't have to worry about finding a good weapon. Instead, try to get the following stats across your different gear:
-
Fixed damage for attacks
-
Mana regeneration per second/Mana per kill
-
Evasion and Energy Shield
-
resistance
-
attack speed
To maximize DPS, buy gloves with as much fixed damage bonus as possible. Equip two iron rings with damage and elemental resistance properties and use runes to patch up any gaps in your defenses. There are many good items for sale by other players, so try trading them if you have some currency items to spare.
Evasion or Energy Shield?
Ideally, you'll want both. You can use Evasion/ES on any armor piece, but you can also try mixing and matching dedicated Evasion and Energy Shield pieces until you are satisfied with your survivability. If so, I would recommend at least using the Evasion/ES Body Armor parts.
The Hollow Palm Technique increases attack speed and critical strike chance based on evasion rating and energy shield respectively. Stack them as high as possible.
