Aggro Crab has released its first mega hit of 2025, Peak. It's a relatively simple surface co-op game where people work together to reach the top of a mountain. Thanks to its unique mechanics and melee chat, Peak sold a whopping 10 million copies. This means that Aggro Crab has finally received a box of chocolates from Valve for the first time in the studio's history.
With all the Peak cash pouring in, you'd think celebratory candy would be on Aggro Crab developers' minds, but that's clearly not the case. There's no official breakdown of what chocolate you need to succeed on Steam, but according to game marketing consultant Chris Zurkowski (thanks to GamesRadar), every studio with a game that grosses more than $800,000 a year on Steam is sent a box of gourmet chocolates by Valve.
Peak is officially a Chocolate-rated game on Steam.
Peak costs only $5, but even at regular price I would have overcome so many hurdles that I would have sent at least 10 boxes of chocolate, but I'm not sure how that works. Agrro Crab has finally received a box from Valve, with studio co-founder Nick Kaman confirming as much in an interview with Game File.
Peak's Bing Bong plush is about to become a reality, and we couldn't ask for anything more.
I took him to the peak. Now let me take him to my shelf.
This is a particularly notable win for Aggro Crab for several reasons. For starters, the studio shares an office building with Slay the Spire developer Mega Crit Games. “Every year they get some damn chocolate that we don’t get,” Kaman joked. I'm assuming Mega Crit has received several boxes of chocolates from Valve due to the continued success of Slay the Spire, and maybe even two if they continue to be a hit with Slay the Spire 2. Slay the Spire 2 is probably still scheduled for release in 2026.
Unless Valve limits you to one box per studio. Again, the parameters of this chocolate layer are not widely known.
Aggro Crab was expecting chocolate in 2024
To make the proverbial lack of chocolate taste even more bittersweet, Aggro Crab feels like it owes 2024 a box. Another Crab's Treasure wasn't as big of a hit as Peak, but it seemed pretty successful on the surface. So much so that the studio sent a message saying, “Hey, where's our chocolate?” After watching Mega Crit, I emailed Valve and it appears they responded with an apology.
Like Slay the Spire, Peak's success will likely continue, potentially securing Aggro Crab's continued chocolate status in 2026. The $5 game needs to sell roughly 160,000 copies, and with Peak still selling about 50,000 copies every 24 hours, it's probably well on its way to hitting that goal just two weeks into the new year.
