with one piece With the live-action series currently entering its second season on Netflix, many questions have been raised about what nationality or ethnicity the Straw Hats would have in real life. Fortunately, Oda has already revealed key information on the topic through SBS's questions. Most of the Straw Hats responded with: one piece Volume 56 SBS. Meanwhile, in the case of Jinbei, there was no answer to this question until SBS Volume 99. While some of the Straw Hats' nationalities make perfect sense, others question Oda's choices.
3 Yonko level female characters from One Piece
There are many strong female characters in One Piece, but only a few of them are at the Yonko level.
10
Jinbe: Indian
The most recent Straw Hat pirate to reveal his nationality is Jinbei. In Volume 99 of SBS, Oda expressed his thoughts. Jinbe must be of Indian nationality. It definitely surprised a lot of people. That's because Jinbe's character design doesn't seem to have anything to do with India. Many fans simply expected Jinbe to be Japanese or Pacific Islander. A big part of this is because Jinbe wears a kimono, is connected to the sea, and is a fishman. Nonetheless, it is important to keep in mind that people do not give too much thought to these specific questions.

Brook: Austrian
Brooke's nationality is definitely another nationality that has surprised many fans. When asked about the nationality of 'Straw Hat' on SBS, Oda said this. Brooke must be Austrian. There is actually a big reason why this choice was made for him.
Brook is a musician for the Straw Hat Pirates, and Austria is known to be home to one of the most famous and iconic musicians in history, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This may be why Oda chose this country for Brooke. In that sense, fans agree that this suits him in some ways.

Franky: American
Frankie, the Straw Hat Pirates' shipbuilder, received a positive response from fans as the most likely choice when Oda revealed his nationality. Oda exposed it. Franky must be from America In real life.
This makes a lot of sense, as Franky often associates himself with American culture and has a pretty typical American accent despite speaking Japanese. He uses a lot of English words in his comics too. To Oda, Franky is a very stereotypical American, as he uses cola for fuel and his favorite food turns out to be hamburgers.
7
Nico Robin: Russian
Nico Robin is definitely an iconic member of the Straw Hat Pirates. She is their archaeologist and former enemy who became an ally after the Aravasta Saga. Oda said this on SBS. Robin's actual nationality is Russian..
One Piece: 7 strongest straw hat transformations, rankings
The Straw Hat Pirates became incredibly strong in One Piece. This is the most powerful change.

Some fans had mixed feelings about this. Most of Robin's exploits are a mix of French and Spanish, so Russian doesn't really make sense here. However, it is also clear that Oda chose Russia due to the stereotype of an archaeologist and spy assassin.

Tony Tony Chopper: Canadian
Tony Tony Chopper is a reindeer, but if he were from the real world he would still have nationalities. When asked about the nationality of the Straw Hat Pirates on the same SBS, Oda said that he also believed that. Chopper is probably from Canada. This isn't the most surprising answer. After all, Canada has a large reindeer population. Canadian weather can be quite cold across the country, which is consistent with the Chopper's origins as residents of Drum Island, where it snows all year round.
5
Sanji: French
As for Sanji's nationality, the answer was quite expected. Oda exposed it. Sanji must be French If he's from the real world, most fans saw this coming. Many of Sanji's attacks, such as Collier Strike, Bas Côte, and even Diable Jambe, are all French words. Of course, Sanji's clothing, smoking, and even personality appear to be typical French.
It's also important to remember that as a chef for the Straw Hat Pirates, this choice makes even more sense considering that many famous chefs are from France.
4
Usopp: African
Of the Straw Hats, Usopp received the most disappointing response when Oda assigned a nationality to each Straw Hat. Strictly speaking, Oda did not reveal Usopp's exact nationality on SBS. Instead, he simply said: Usopp must be from AfricaCompared to the other answers he gave, it's definitely very vague.
Apparently Oda didn't know exactly which country to assign to Usopp and decided to leave it open for fans to interpret. Some fans mistakenly believe that Oda was specifically referring to South Africa, but this is not true. The closest ethnicity fans can come up with for Usopp is based on live-action actor Jacob Gibson, who has a Jamaican background.
3
Nami: Swedish
Nami This is Oda, the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates, revealed by SBS. Her real world nationality would be Swedish.. For Nami, there was no exact indicator or hint as to her national/ethnic background and she could really fit into any box Oda wanted to put her into.
Therefore, after her Swedish background was revealed, many fans had expectations that she would play a major role in bringing Sweden to the country in the movie 'Elbaf' based on Norse mythology. So far it hasn't quite paid off, but the arc is still ongoing and she may still have a chance to shine.
2
Roronoa Zoro: Japanese
Another character whose nationality was very clear before Oda even revealed it to him was Roronoa Zoro. Zoro was confirmed to be Japanese If he's from the real world, this makes perfect sense. Zoro is a swordsman and specifically wields a Japanese katana. Not only that, but most of Zoro's attacks also have Japanese references or words like onigiri.
Aside from that, it is confirmed later in the story that Zoro is originally from the Wano Kingdom, a country based in Oda Japan. Zoro's live-action actor is also Japanese, so he fits his character perfectly.
1
Monkey D. Luffy: Brazilian
Monkey D. Luffy's nationality certainly surprised many fans. Oda in the real world Luffy is probably from Brazil. However, it was not easy for fans to guess this based on Luffy's character. Luffy doesn't use Portuguese in his attacks, nor is he specifically designed to be stereotypically Brazilian. But fans can see more of his South American heritage in live-action through Mexican actor Inaki Godoy.
