The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 has been a hot topic since its announcement. The company received a lot of backlash for this decision, along with the $80 price tag for its games like Mario Kart World, but sales reports show it's still as popular as ever.
There were previous reports that Nintendo was raising the prices of its consoles, but the company said in November that it had no plans to do so. However, industry analyst Niko Partners predicted that the price of the Switch 2 would rise this year. Previous reports cited Trump's tariffs as the reason, but Niko Partners says rising RAM and storage prices due to AI data centers have now been added to the mix.
Nintendo Switch 2 price may rise due to RAM price.
Niko Partners said a global price increase for the Switch 2 could be seen as part of its 10 predictions for 2026. “We believe Switch 2 will follow in the footsteps of Sony and Microsoft with increased tariffs, increased memory costs, and its own price increases in response to broader macroeconomic conditions.” “Nintendo decided to maintain its $449 entry price last year despite the introduction of tariffs affecting production in China, Japan and Vietnam.
“RAM and storage prices have risen recently due to increased demand for AI data centers. We expect Nintendo to increase prices for Switch 2, but they may also discontinue the $449 SKU and instead only sell bundled SKUs above $499.”
It's been 4 months and I'm still waiting for my Switch 2 to prove itself.
Switch 2's 'Breath of the Wild' moment will come eventually.
RAM prices have soared due to increased demand for AI data centers. In fact, two 64GB (128GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM sticks currently cost $1,609. It's never been more expensive to build a gaming PC, and those prices could impact next-gen consoles as well.
Among Nico Partners' other predictions for 2026 include women making up 40% of players in Asia and MENA, China approving more than 2,100 games for domestic release, and Asian developers embracing generative AI for development.
