My Mario model denies AI accusations against Nintendo

Brittoni O'myah Sinclair, one of the actors who appeared in Nintendo's recent My Mario commercial, has denied accusations that the photo was created by AI.

Late last year, Nintendo announced My Mario, a line of Super Mario products aimed specifically at young children, including apps, wooden building blocks, and more. The collection was initially only available in Japan, but Nintendo of America recently confirmed that My Mario will be released in the US next month.

The variety of kid-friendly Mario products is pretty exciting on its own, but all the air was taken out of the water when Nintendo of America was accused of using generative AI in its My Mario commercials. The strangely shaped thumb made many people cry out for AI, but one of the actors who took part in the photo shoot hit back at the claims.

My Mario Actor Says Nintendo Didn't Use AI

I think those thumbs are just double jointed

Shortly after the My Mario ad was shared and allegations arose that it used AI, Nintendo issued a response confirming that AI was not used to take the photos. But this isn't the only one denying the use of AI, as one of the actors in the My Mario commercial took the time to respond to an Instagram post and “promised” that AI wasn't involved.

As pointed out by Twitter user SILENTPRINCESS, Brittoni O'myah Sinclair shared her thoughts on the criticism of Nintendo of America's My Mario post. Her quick reply was, “As one of the models, I can promise you that this person is not AI,” which hopefully combined with Nintendo's response will allay concerns that the entire photoshoot is AI-generated.

I think Sinclair's comments are enough to confirm that AI was not used in the My Mario post, but the replies to her post show that not everyone has changed their minds so quickly.

So, if AI wasn't used in the My Mario commercials, what would have happened to the strange thumb in the third photo? The simple answer is that the model is double jointed and the thumbs can bend like that. This is something other fans were quick to demonstrate on Twitter when they defended Nintendo.

There are still concerns about the possibility of Nintendo using AI to refine its My Mario ads, but the reaction of someone actually involved with My Mario might be enough to calm any nerves. But one thing is clear. Nintendo knows better than ever how its fan base feels about AI.

Stranger Things' conformity gate theory was so compelling that I almost wished it was true.
