Maura Higgins’ ‘naked’ dress angers fans over ‘disrespectful’ poppy nipple tassels

A British star has clapped back after her risque dress was labelled “disrespectful” by angry fans.

Maura Higgins wore an eye-popping David Koma gown while attending the highly-anticipated Tommy Fury fight against YouTuber KSI on October 14.

The revealing dress featured a structured black corset that finished under the bust, with a sheer “illusion” panel adorned with two red poppies across her breasts.

The daring design was finished with a red scarf that flowed down the 32-year-old’s back.

Despite being an incredibly trendy dress – Kendall Jenner wore it back in June – the new take on a “naked” dress has angered many, with some claiming the skimpy design “exposed too much” skin.

However Higgins, who appeared on Love Island UK in 2019, wasn’t prepared to take the criticism lying down.

The reality star turned influencer addressed those who slammed her outfit in a telling new post, sharing a new photo of herself wearing the controversial design.

“One more for the Karens,” she captioned the snap, that showed her posing in a mirror wearing the mini-dress.

Her post did little to quell the backlash, with many stating it wasn’t just the revealing nature of the gown that had riled them up, but the fact its “nipple tassels” were poppy flowers – the symbol of Remembrance Day on November 11.

“I would have loved this dress if the flowers had been anything other than poppies. Poppies have such great significance at this time of year that it just felt disrespectful to those that lost their lives fighting for our freedom……freedom to wear dresses like that,” one stated.

“Well that’s my remembrance Sunday outfit sorted,” another snarked.

As one raged: “YOU SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY ASHAMED OF WEARING THIS OUTFIT.”

“You are stunning and don’t need to bare all,” another stated, while one argued: “This look definitely belongs in a peep show.”

“What a horrible outfit,” some else chipped in.

Many agreed they were “shocked” at how naked it made Higgins appear, claiming “I actually thought you were topless”.

“Why even bother wearing clothes anymore,” one asked.

Overwhelmingly though, most praised the star, stating Higgins “looked insane” – with many defending her from the swathe of negative comments.

“If I looked like @maurahiggins I would go out naked everywhere!” one fan argued.

“Talk about provoking the Karens,” another pointed out.

“If you’ve got it, flaunt it girl,” one added.

Many more labelled the outfit “beautiful” and “gorgeous”, claiming Higgins could wear “anything and look great”.

She’s no stranger to outfit controversies, back in December Higgins was caught in a feud with fashion designer Scott Henshall over a custom made gown she refused to wear.

The former reality star pulled out of a red carpet appearance at the British Fashion Awards she because she felt the dress was “inappropriate” for the prestigious event.

She later took to social media in the plunging silver dress to describe her wardrobe “nightmare”, stating the skimpy outfit “wasn’t something I’d wear”.
