Jordan bans 10 people from traveling, charges 28 others with human trafficking and fraud in pilgrims case

CAIRO: Israeli forces killed at least 24 Palestinians in three separate air strikes on Gaza City early Tuesday, health officials said, while tanks stepped up their incursion into the town of Rafah in the south of the enclave.
Two of the attacks hit two schools in Gaza City, killing at least 14 people, medics said. Another attack on a house in Shati (Beach) camp, one of the eight historic refugee camps in the Gaza Strip, killed 10 more people.
The house in Shati belonged to the extended family of Qatar-based Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh. One of his sisters and other relatives were killed, family members and doctors said.
Haniyeh, who heads Hamas’s diplomatic mission and is the public face of the militant Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip, has lost many of his relatives in Israeli airstrikes since October 7, including three of his sons.
The Israeli military said its forces took action overnight in Gaza City against militants involved in planning attacks on Israel. The terrorists included some who were involved in the hostage-taking and some who took part in the Hamas cross-border attack on October 7.
The Israeli Air Force attacked two buildings “used by Hamas terrorists in Shati and Daraj Tuffah in the northern Gaza Strip. The terrorists were operating on school premises used by Hamas as a shield for its terrorist activities,” the military statement said.
Hamas denies using civilian facilities such as schools and hospitals for military purposes.
After more than eight months of fighting, international mediation with US support has so far failed to bring about a ceasefire. Hamas says any agreement must end the war, while Israel says it will only agree to temporary pauses in fighting until Hamas is wiped out.

Drug shortage
The Israeli ground and air offensive in the Gaza Strip was triggered by the incursion of Hamas-led militants into southern Israel on October 7. According to Israeli sources, they killed around 1,200 people and took over 250 hostages.
According to Palestinian health authorities, nearly 37,600 people have been killed in the Israeli retaliatory offensive and the small, densely populated Gaza Strip lies in ruins.
The Gaza Health Ministry said on Tuesday that there is a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies in the enclave’s hospitals and medical centers due to the ongoing Israeli offensive, Israeli control and closure of all border crossings and Israel’s targeted attacks on the health sector in Gaza.
Medicines needed for emergencies, anesthesia, intensive care and operations are particularly scarce, the ministry said in a statement, while cancer patients are unable to travel to hospitals.
Since early May, fighting has focused on Rafah, on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip on the border with Egypt, where about half of the enclave’s 2.3 million residents have found refuge after fleeing other areas.
Residents reported that there had been heavy fighting in western Rafah during the night. In recent days, tanks have expanded their advance there and blown up several houses in the area.
