The year is November 2024. An old friend contacted me and told me to download it. social phobia So we can play together. Of course, I've heard about the game beforehand. social phobia has been in early access since 2020, but was recently released on consoles in October. We hadn't played a game together since our heyday. Apex LegendsSo I downloaded the game and saw the two reunite the following week. the boys (Not to be confused with the cartoon series).
My high school friends and I got to play a new game, and because of that, it was easily going to be my most played game in 2025. There's a good chance this game will remain my most played game of the year (or at least it won't make the top 10). We spent weeks trying to get good at the game, and most of us had some level of fame. all cooperation social phobia The sessions are filled with incredibly stupid pranks. We went from playing every night at dinner for a few weeks to a couple of times a week to now playing about once a week. Considering the incredible amount of time we've put into the game, and now that Phasmophobia's 6 Tanglewood Drive rework is releasing on March 3rd, it's only natural. I welcome all the recent map reworks, but this update is heartbreaking.
Why Phasmophobia Is Reworking Tanglewood
Developer Kinetic Games took a few looks at the map and explained the objectives and reasons for reworking Tanglewood. I want to take the visuals and gameplay of Tanglewood and make it more similar to the newer version. social phobia Maps and reworks are being made to increase their replay value and align them with the studio's vision for the game's future full release. Part of this effort is to remove various stock assets that remain in the game, which is understandable. On paper, I completely understand why Kinetic Games would rework Tanglewood, but on paper, Kinetic Games always knew this would upset a portion of the fanbase.
Along with announcing the release date for Tanglewood's rework, Kinetic Games reiterated:
“When we announced that 6 Tanglewood Drive would be reworked, we knew it would be a hot topic among the community due to its popularity and place in the hearts of players. Now that work on this new version is complete, we believe we've only improved on what makes the map special.”
This message is for me and players like me, especially those who have been playing longer than me. And while I understand the desire and need to modify the map, I don't think changing the map can “improve” what makes it special. Tanglewood isn't special because of its specific frame, but my friends and I spent weeks on the map trying to improve our gaming skills, we know that map like the back of our hands, and it's the warm-up map for every session. social phobia. That may still be the case, and I'm trying to reserve judgment, but they can't manufacture what made Tanglewood special.
If there is an area of possibility for players to retain/access Old Tanglewood and New Tanglewood, I think that would be the easiest solution. I hope Old Tanglewood returns at least a few times throughout the year.

The rework of Tanglewood looks good, but it doesn't look like Tanglewood.
I would believe it if I told you that the images of New Tanglewood that have been released so far are a completely different map. The front of the house is almost the same, but the hallway looks completely different, the living room looks like it's from a completely different era, the repeating parts of the kitchen are gone, and the van (which has been annoying me for years when the ghost starts honking) has been replaced by a completely different car. I don't even know about the daycare that saved me from the crisis. social phobia I've hit ghosts hundreds of times since I first started playing.
At first glance, social phobiaYour changes to Tanglewood don't sit right with me. Maybe it will feel different once it's released. social phobiaOther maps have been reworked since their release. But the changes were much bigger than expected when they were first mentioned.
Kinetic Games says there were no drastic layout changes to the exterior of the kitchen, as they tried to “keep the core design of the house as familiar as possible,” and that “the redesign gives 6 Tanglewood Drive a much richer personality, introduced through new interactions and landmarks players will notice when they first step inside.”
Kinetic Games also said there are a number of new audio features, including: social phobia As for Tanglewood, please note that there are still “great locations” within Tanglewood where you can repeat ghosts. Apparently there is also a dryer sound. The expanded audio capabilities make perfect sense to me as well as adding a whole new set of interactions, but New Tanglewood is not Old Tanglewood.
So I side with the fan base that Kinetic Games knew would be upset by the massive changes to Tanglewood. I understand, but I don't like it. But once the Tanglewood rework is released, my friends will no doubt check it out. I don't know if it will capture the same magic. Of course, we've been talking about this through the teasers that have been released so far, and we have a variety of opinions. Maybe I'm at the extreme of not liking it, while my other friend is at the extreme of being open to it. Others fall somewhere in the middle, and the way the pendulum swings indicates how important they are. pas The game is upon us. We all want the best because we like it so much.
Kinetic Games is talking about “trust,” and while they're immediately hesitant about it, they've chosen to trust that what makes Tanglewood special hasn't been lost. I know that no matter how much I love or hate New Tanglewood, I'm going to miss Old Tanglewood. You can also bet that you will be spending a lot of time at Tanglewood through March 3rd.
