that virtual boy One of Nintendo's biggest failures. First released in 1995, the Virtual Boy was Nintendo's first major attempt at stereoscopic 3D. Virtual Boy, which was criticized for its high price and inconvenience to play, failed to sell even 1 million units and was discontinued in less than a year. 3D Tetris March 1996.
Nintendo eventually took another stab at 3D with the Nintendo 3DS and found even greater success with its glasses-free 3D gimmick. When the 3DS began receiving games from older Nintendo platforms, bringing Virtual Boy titles to the portable seemed like an obvious choice, even if the device's library wasn't particularly well-received. When that never happened, many people thought it was okay for Nintendo to let the Virtual Boy and its games rot in the '90s, which made the revelation that a Virtual Boy game would appear in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack that much more shocking.
Nintendo Switch Online users can now enjoy two more Game Boy classic games.
Nintendo surprised Switch Online subscribers with a new Shadowdrop featuring two classic Game Boy titles from the early '90s.
Unlike the 3DS, the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 don't support glasses-free 3D, so you'll need a $100 accessory to play Virtual Boy games on the console. The Virtual Boy Switch accessory mimics the original device, acting as a shell into which players can put their Switch console to play Virtual Boy games, similar to the way they used to be played in the mid-90s. Despite the Virtual Boy's very bad reputation, I took the plunge and bought a $100 accessory to try playing Virtual Boy games on my Switch, and was surprised at how much fun I had playing them.
Most virtual boy games are not good, but there is one big diamond in the rough.

Some of the main complaints about the Virtual Boy at the time were that it gave people headaches and was awkward to use.
