The Attack on Titan collaboration crossover has brought a new storyline of quests to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, along with another mission related to the Isu, but you’ll need to find one particular location and navigate its main mission to reap its rewards. Starting with the ‘Beyond the Wall’ quest, Naoe and Yasuke get brought in for a unique story from the AoT universe to find a kidnapped Titan-Shifter.
Although, AC Shadows doesn’t make it very clear how to get into this AoT storyline. This full walkthrough guide will tell you not only the location you need to go to start the Attack on Titan quests in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but also how to complete them and what rewards you can get as well.
How To Start Attack On Titan Quest
When you’re playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows and want to start the Attack on Titan collaboration questline, you need to head to the quest marker for ‘Beyond the Walls’, which is located at the central top area of the Yamashiro region — right by the road on the border to Omi.
The quickest way to get to this AoT questline is by fast-travelling to AC Shadows’ Hanazono Castle and heading northeast.
You’ll know you’re in the right place when you come across the dead bodies of Survey Corps members from the Attack on Titan anime and manga’s Scout Regiment, based in Paradis Island of Eldia.
After following the quest and reading the letter from the deceased Eldian captain reveals that the team was after a defector named Gautwin, who has the powers of a Shifter: a human who possesses the power to transform into a Titan.
As the Beyond the Walls quest officially starts, follow the quest marker to the castle ruins, funnily enough, back at Hanazono Castle, and the Attack on Titan story arc has officially started.
The Assassin’s Creed Shadows X Attack on Titan collaboration that’s added this questline will only be around for a limited time until December 22; the missions and their rewards will be unavailable if you haven’t already played them by that date.
Also, keep in mind that you need to have Yasuke unlocked as a playable character to access these Attack on Titan missions in AC Shadows.

Beyond The Walls Walkthrough
The first bit of combat in this AC Shadows and Attack on Titan crossover is when the castle is overrun with Elitrasi Fanatics under the command of Lord Albrecht, who has taken Gautwin underground. Meanwhile, Naoe or Yasuke need to storm the castle and free the sole survivor of the Survey Corps rescue team being held captive.
Like with many other castles filled with enemies in the game, it’s far better if you use Yasuke for this part of the mission, as he’s far better equipped to deal with the many tough enemies with armor and high attack strength — like the two samurai Daisho.
It’s a different story if you’ve got a Naoe with a bulkier late-game build, but if you’re in the middle of a first playthrough, she’s going to be way too much of a glass cannon: being only able to take a few hits at most, and barely delivering high damage to tough enemies in return.
You could just use Naoe to sneak around and keep combat to a minimum with stealth kills, but if you’ve never raided this castle before, you’ll want to use Yasuke to kill the Samurai Daisho so you can open the red chest near the hostage: containing the Protector’s Helmet (Legendary-level gear) and the Damage on Parry engraving.
Helping the captive, Ada, will reveal that Gautwin was actually duped by Albrecht into leaving Paradis Island with him in order to obtain the Titan’s power for themselves. To stop that from happening, you’ll now resume gameplay as Naoe to sneak into the underground cavern and reach Gautwin, while finding how to open a way for Yasuke and Ada as well.
The Beyond the Wall mission will now be completed, earning you 1000 XP; the next mission, ‘Descent’ will immediately begin as the second part of the questline.
Descent Walkthrough
Through The Cavern
At the beginning of this second Attack on Titan quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, once Naoe enters the cavern, go prone and take the crawl space to the left. Open the chest at the end of the path for a Training Corps Emblem Banner for your Hideout.
Next, throw a shuriken at the explosive barrels. This will open a both for Yasuke and Ada to enter the cavern separately and make their own way. Turn around and back through the crawl space and jump through the stone gap that opened from your explosion.
Follow the path, and you’ll start seeing hardening crystals — another staple from Attack on Titan — in the cavern. You can easily slice this away with any of Naoe’s weapons. Use your grapple to hook onto the roof of the cave and toggle it to descend downward.
In the preceding large open space with a grapple swinging point and a stepping stone to the next room, drop down first to find another chest in the back: this time containing a Military Police Banner outdoor cosmetic.
After hopping from the stepping stones, jump to the hardening crystals to climb and reach the wooden ledges, then go left once you’ve reached the stone platform. Go prone and crawl under the narrow passageway, and throw another shuriken at the next explosive barrel ahead.
Go back the way you came to the stone ledges, and the next path forward will be open. Crawl under the floorboards during the scene between Albrecht and Ritter, and swing across to the next platform afterwards.
Once you get to the small cliff with a chest underneath, drop down to climb down the crystals on the left-hand side and across to reach it; this particular chest in AC Shadows’ Attack on Titan quest can be tricky to get to, but doing so will earn you the Garrison Banner outdoor cosmetic.
As you carry on and drop down a slope, adjust your camera angle slightly through the crack in the cave wall to see another explosive barrel (it’s very easy to miss otherwise). Make it explode with another shuriken to open the next path forward.
Turn around, take a left, and pick up the Death Note from the body, along with topping up your supply of tools. Go down the next slope and jump off before hitting the bottom to grab the crystals on the cliff face in time.
Now, you’re back in the room where you got the AoT Garrison banner. Use your grapple to swing through to the pathway you just opened up with the shuriken explosion. Keep swinging and slope-sliding along until you find two enemies to quickly stealth kill. Walk up, slide through the crack in the wall, and you’re now at the final part of Descent.
Reach Gautwin
For the climax of Attack on Titan’s line of quests in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you need to have Naoe continuously swing and jump across grapple points between wooden platforms within the all-crystal cavern — killing more Elitrasi Fanatics along the way until you have Gautwin in your sights.
This section of the mission is pretty straightforward, as you just need to keep swinging, walking, and climbing any wooden structures you see. Don’t worry about running out of kunai or shuriken either, as there are plenty of ‘Refill Tools’ boxes to keep you well-stocked.
How To Get The Eren Jeager Crystal Statue
The main part of this level to pay attention to is after you’ve performed a triple grapple swing and see a wooden plank with a pile of hay next to hit — with Gautwin in your sights from behind, about 84-90 meters away; this is because while Eren Jeager isn’t in this Assassin’s Creed Shadows X Attack on Titan questline, you can still get a crystal statue of his Titan form as an outdoor cosmetic.
Before you go ahead to free Guatwin, perform a Leap of Faith on the wooden plank first and explore the optional area below, as this is your only chance to get the Eren Jeager Titan form. Walk along the wooden plank and jump into the hay below.
Keep walking, hop along the crystal platforms, and climb up the crystal wall to the left (the one with three wooden planks next to it), then backjump. Top up your tools with the supply boxes nearby, then swing by the grapple point ahead to reach Lord Ritter and his Elitrasi Fanatics. You can kill at least the first two by stealth, but you’ll have to fight the remaining group head-on.
We’d recommend using a Kusarigama for this fight, since they’re great for crowd control. Still, it’s ideal to target Lord Ritter on the ledge by the crystal Eren Yeager statue first, as he will keep targeting you with gunfire from above. This is quite a handful of opponents for Naoe to handle at once, with not too much room to maneuver, so making use of evades and parries is key for this particular brawl.
Afterwards, get to the chest under the crystal Eren Jeager, and that same statue will be added to the inventory for your hideout. Beyond the chest, you’ll find a grapple point and some wooden climbing frames ahead. Eventually, you’ll reach a zipline that will get you back on track to Gautwin.
Albrecht Boss Fight
After landing, even though Gautwin is right in front at first glance, you need to use all the wooden steps and frames to get high enough to reach him by swinging on the grapple hook, since there are no direct steps to where he’s being held at this point in AC Shadow’s Attack on Titan campaign.
When you find yourself back on the wooden platform where you performed the Leap of Faith earlier, you’re now ready to start The Descent’s final fight.
As you perform the final double grapple swing to reach Gautwin, it’s very easy to overshoot it and fall to the floor below; release your jump just before you hit the full swing, and you’ll land right in the middle of the platform.
Ada and Yasuke will arrive at last, just in time for Yasuke to fight Lord Albrecht while the others are freeing Gautwin.
As is the case with many boss fights, it’s best to take out Albrecht’s men before fighting him directly. His wide-reaching attacks are too troublesome when paired with the frequent attacks of his minions.
Once his men are out of the way, defeating Albrecht is pretty straightforward, as many of his attacks are easy to parry, and you can shred away a great chunk of his armor with an arquebus to make things even easier. While he still has unparryable moves, too, you’ll easily know when to dodge as you see the glowing red light.
Titan-Albrecht Chase Sequence
After the fight, as Albrecht resorts to turning himself into one of AoT’s titular Titans, you sadly can’t defeat it as a secret final boss in this particular Assassin’s Creed Shadows mission. So, the only thing left to do is run.
This last stretch is a chase through the caverns, one you’ll need to utilize all the typical traversal skills you’ve been using in Assassin’s Creed Shadows already up until now; you just need to do it quickly to escape this Abnormal-type Titan that Albrecht has become.
Like other Abnormals in Attack on Titan, Albrecht is incredibly quick, so there is no time to dawdle and stop to take pictures in Photo Mode. As long as you keep running, remember the correct jump & climbing mechanics, and have Yasuke charge through any crystal walls in his path, he’ll make it out unscathed.
As Yasuke charges through the last crystal wall, the Descent quest will end for this AC Shadows and AoT collaboration mission, and The World Outside will begin.
The World Outside Walkthrough
Should Gautwin Return Home Or Go Elsewhere?
After Yasuke joins Naoe and co outside, a final decision has to be made on whether Gautwin should return home and fulfil his oath or go elsewhere and live his life — with Ada joining him on whatever you convince him to do. The right choice in this ending decision for the Assassin’s Creed Shadows X Attack on Titan questline is to make Gautwin return home and fulfil his oath, because it’s the best fit narratively, following the rest of the quest up until now and what follows.
Yasuke correctly points out that Gautwin’s only crime was being naive and being tricked by Lord Albrecht and Lord Ritter, and that if he trusted his king to swear an oath of service, he should do the same that they’d understand his situation — followed by Gautwin admitting he’s tired of running. While there is some substance to Naoe’s argument for living their lives away together, since Gautwin only have five years left to live as a Titan-Shifter, it feels off for Ada to tell them to come visit their homeland and faction and they’d be welcome if they’re not even there (especially if Yasuke and Naoe were the ones who convinced them to properly become runaways in the first place).
Interestingly, Ada’s “someone back home” who said “A person who can’t sacrifice anything, will never change anything”, was none other than Armin Arlert from Attack on Titan’s main storyline — which he says in Season 1, Episode 5 (“First Battle: The Struggle for Trost, Part 1”).
Ada and Gautwin then give Yasuke and Noae the ‘dedicate your heart’ pose (the iconic military salute seen throughout Attack on Titan), and the two pairs go their separate ways.
As The World Outside quest completes and the final section of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows X Attack on Titan collaboration campaign wraps up, you’ll receive 3000 XP, the Cavern Shard (Legendary-level katana) for Naoe, and the Reactive Shell engraving as your last set of rewards.
The Cavern Shard katana is especially unique, since it also gives Naoe’s right arm, torso and even hair the crystalized look of Titan Hardening. This is only a cosmetic element, though, and offers no gameplay bonuses in combat.
