PlayStation has released a bunch of free Resident Evil avatars to celebrate the series' 30th anniversary, but actually getting them is an incredible amount of work.
2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil, one of the greatest horror franchises of all time. As if Resident Evil, one of the greatest horror franchises of all time, wasn't big enough to celebrate the milestone, Capcom poured out a whole slew of special art, collaborations, and more to mark the occasion.
Capcom isn't the only one celebrating Resident Evil's anniversary. Because several other companies also shared the love for the series as it entered the big three. PlayStation is the latest example of this, as they've released a free Resident Evil avatar that anyone can claim if it bothers them to do all the extra steps.
If you want a free Resident Evil avatar on PlayStation, you'll have to try
What do you mean you have to download an app?
PlayStation announced on Twitter that it is giving away 10 Resident Evil avatars to celebrate the series' 30th anniversary. This collection includes two avatars: Leon, Chris, Ada, Jill and Claire. One is based on the 30th Anniversary art and the other is from the CGI movie.
Real Talk Movie Avatar is pretty. bad. At least the 30th anniversary piece is cool.
So, I hear you asking, how do you get these avatars? While most sweepstakes are as simple as logging into your PlayStation account to claim them, there are a few strange extra steps here that make them a bit more annoying. First, you'll need to purchase Resident Evil Requiem from the PlayStation Store or add it to your wishlist.
Download the Sony Pictures Core app (obviously an important one) on your PS5 or PS4 here and then sign up to the campaign website to receive the vouchers you need to redeem for your avatar. Free is still free, but I've never seen an avatar giveaway campaign with this many tiers.
