Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't one of the many games on the list of third-party titles that could get the Nintendo Switch 2 treatment. But Eidos Montreal's criminally underrated Marvel game seems to be getting exactly that rating, if the new ratings for 2021 titles are in effect.
Guardians Of The Galaxy is rated Switch 2.
As is often the case with unannounced games, the ratings board is responsible for these early reveals. Specifically, Taiwan's Digital Game Rating Board captured by Gematsu. As is typical of unintentional ratings board reveals, there isn't much to do other than reveal that a Switch 2 port for Guardians appears to be in the works.
Devil May Cry 5 is coming to Switch 2
Devil May Cry 5 is rated for Switch 2, so get ready to pull your Devil Trigger on the go.
A rating snapshot captured by Gematsu only shows the name of the game, its rating, the reason it received that rating, and the platforms of interest here. Guardians of the Galaxy was originally released on the Switch. But since it was a cloud version, probably not many people were playing it on console.
The Switch 2 version will probably get a proper release, and maybe even a physical version. However, we must be careful not to place too high expectations here. I raved about Guardians of the Galaxy upon its release, and I'm still singing its praises nearly five years later. I think this game stands alongside the best superhero games of modern times, and it's a shame that when this ragtag bunch of relatively unknown heroes were introduced to the MCU, they didn't seem to have the same impact on the gaming world as the movies did.
Is there even the slimmest chance that this means we'll get a sequel someday?
If the Guardians game is set for a Switch 2 release, assuming there's a chance there'll be a sequel as well, I might be getting way ahead of myself and inevitably setting myself up for more disappointment. It's highly unlikely, but if Eidos and Square Enix are interested in porting the game to the Switch 2, a lot more people at that studio are probably thinking about it than I thought.
This is just a rating at this point and is not official until Square, Eidos, or Nintendo say otherwise. Even though it's a Switch 2 port and nothing more, for now it's a positive sign that we may get a follow-up at some point. Perhaps the game will find a new audience on a new platform and prove to its creators that it's worthy of a sequel.
