Last September, Nintendo made all Fire Emblem fans happy by announcing a new entry in the long-running franchise called Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title set to release at some point in 2026.
With a roughly three-minute-long reveal trailer, Nintendo gave us some early story clues and a first look at gameplay before it disappears. Things have been quiet on Nintendo's part since that September's reveal, but some eagle-eyed fans believe the wait could soon be over thanks to the now-revealed PEGI ratings.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Will Be Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in 2026
Nintendo's next big RPG could take the world by storm like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Things are heating up in the world of Nintendo.
On Nintendo's GB site, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave received a PEGI 12 rating, noting that it has “violence,” “bad language,” and “in-game purchases.” Normally this wouldn't be something to look into, but as Fire Emblem fans have pointed out, a PEGI 12 rating isn't always present.
Rather, as recently as April 7, Fortune's Weave's Nintendo eShop page had a provisional PEGI rating. The rating was also PEGI 12. Nintendo likely assumed that the game would reach this rating once it passed certification.
So where do we go? Well, Nintendo may be preparing to announce more news about FIre Emblem soon. What's particularly interesting is whether this means a new Nintendo Direct is coming soon.
The “In-Game Purchase” label is nothing to worry about. Several other Nintendo first-party titles bear that label, and they almost always have something to do with Nintendo Switch Online features rather than dedicated microtransactions.
As recently as two weeks ago, trusted insider NateTheHate reported that there wouldn't be a standalone Nintendo Direct until June. But that doesn't mean there won't be a Nintendo Today reveal or something.
According to recent rumors, Star Fox is coming back in a big way after Fox McCloud's appearance in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and the reveal will take place sometime in April. If Direct isn't available, Nintendo Today or social media are logical outlets.
Of course, Nintendo could wait until June for all of this.
Best of all is the fact that Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave isn't the only first-party title to have its ranks updated, as Splatoon Raiders has also had its ranks changed, and like Fire Emblem, it once had a temporary rank that no longer exists.
Plus, it's not the only title rated. Guardians of the Galaxy, a 2021 title starring Marvel characters developed by Eidos-Montreal, also recently submitted a Nintendo Switch 2 rating, which suggests a port could be coming soon. Elsewhere, Devil May Cry 5 also appears to be ready for Switch 2 release, with a separate SKU being evaluated in Taiwan.
Where there's smoke, there's fire, and in this case, the abundance of age ratings suggests there's major news on the horizon.
