Fallout fans are once again clamoring for a new game

With everything going on around Christmas, including catching up on the second to last batch of Stranger Things episodes and all of the Game of the Year contenders, it's easy to forget that Season 2 of Amazon Prime's live-action adaptation of Fallout is also happening every week.

Already one of the highest-rated projects of the year, Fallout Season 2 is set to be another all-time high-profile project for video game adaptations. There are so many that fans are once again wondering about simple questions. Where on earth is the new Fallout game?

This is Vault Hunters concept art from Fallout.

Fallout was never Bethesda's thing, and it's time for someone else to take over.

Bethesda previously acquired Fallout from Interplay, and now it's time for a new developer to do the same.

The Fallout Universe is too rich to make everyone wait for Bethesda.

According to Reddit, fans of the series are puzzled that despite its success, the only title still receiving updates is the highly divisive Fallout 76.

“Literally the easiest bag of money they could ask for,” one person wrote. “(I don't know) why they didn't plan to exploit this. I know it's unreasonable to quickly create a game out of thin air, but I feel like this could have been planned.”

This is a somewhat fair assessment. Especially when you consider that Sony, on the other hand, chucked out an entire Until Dawn remake to match a very poor film. Then, Devil May Cry and Splinter Cell both received anime adaptations, but neither of them have new entries lined up.

Another wrote: “We've been waiting 11 years.” “Welcome to the club.”

That club seems to be getting more and more crowded every week as more and more people realize how amazing the world of Fallout is and how inaccessible the game is.

That's because if you have a Switch or PlayStation, you won't be able to get Fallout 3 and New Vegas, which are considered the pinnacles of the franchise.

Another fan wrote, “Even if the technological leap isn't that big, there should be a mainline game every 5 years.”

As it stands, Todd Howard has claimed that season 3 of the show is in the works and that Bethesda wants to add elements from the show into the game. It's unclear when Season 3 will release, and given that Bethesda hasn't released The Elder Scrolls 6 yet, shared continuity could be years away from being realized, something Howard has previously confirmed.

But there is hope, even if it is faint. Earlier this month, Howard acknowledged the possibility of remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but offered little more than that.

Todd told Dexerto, “We get it, right? We see all those comments.” “We have a lot going on, and we’re looking forward to the day when we can reveal it.”

I hope that day comes soon because fans, myself included, are hungry for new content.
