One of the best parts of a new game reveal is all the hidden details that people start looking for later or the information that's shared right after the big trailer, and Fable is no exception.
Since its full reveal during Thursday's Xbox Developer Direct, fans have been pouring over every minute detail, and Playground Games has shared tons of information about what to expect when the game launches later this fall.
That said, not all discoveries are necessarily fun, and in this case, fans noticed that the game was tagged as a single-player experience on Steam. That said, don't expect a basic co-op experience like Fable 2 or the extras that Fable 3 had.
The fable will be all about finding joy in the ordinary
I want to live a boring, boring life in Fable by Playground Games.
“As someone who only plays solo, I like that it no longer forces you into multiplayer to achieve achievements.” one fan wrote in response to the change.
Meanwhile, there were those who were expecting something like the chaotic experience of Fable 3.
“I'm not sure why so many people are clearly happy about this. If there was co-op it wouldn't have taken away from the single-player experience,” wrote another.
The potential lack of co-op is just one of many things about the original set of Fable titles that won't return when this revival eventually drops.
The new fables target fables you like but are missing these core elements.
That's because Playground itself has similarly revealed that the popular canine companion mechanic beyond co-op play will not be present in any way, shape, or form. This seems to be one of those changes that other developers can't fix.
“There are people on the team who like me getting asked this question, because I cut it a while ago. You know what? For development reasons, right?” Ralph Fulton, Playground’s general manager, said: “I don’t need to go into much more detail than that, except that there are quite a few members of the team who have yet to forgive me for that decision.”
And if that's not enough, don't expect any character transformations in the new fable, as the new system moves away from “objective good versus evil” considerations. Instead, players can have varying reputations, and if you were a horned creature screaming evil, you'd be screwed.
Naturally, some hardcore fans are outraged by all these developments. Credit where credit is due, they aren't shy about these things and their removal even on the playground.
