PoE 2 exploration and explosion mechanics explained

On the Atlas screen, map nodes with guaranteed end-game events are marked with a specific icon. Map nodes that contain expeditions are marked with a light blue icon that looks like a spiral.

You can use the Expedition Precursor Tablet to guarantee an Expedition encounter at a map node on the Atlas screen, which must be placed in a completed Lost Tower slot.

After loading the map with Exploration, explore the area until you find an area covered in markers and a tent containing one of four NPCs. It explains the basics of the event, but doesn't go into the details of how to properly interact with the exploration mechanics.

Detonators will appear during expeditions and a new UI element will appear in the bottom right corner of the explosives screen. The goal of the expedition is to optimally set up explosives to spawn runic monsters, unearthed remnants, and unearthed chests.

Click the explosives button on the screen, then hover over the explored environment to see the area of ​​effect. Explosives only activate markers contained within the green circle radius. Once you've placed all available explosives, return to the detonator and interact with it. The explosive activates all markers contained in the AoE area, creates a rune monster enhanced by the exploded remnants, and starts an event.

If you die while exploring, the map resets as usual, but if you get overpowered you can run away and come back later. The event does not end even if you leave the exploration area. A viable strategy is to set off the explosives, run away, then come back and take out all the unearthed enemies at once with powerful AoE abilities.

Expedition Pinnacle Map

In expeditions, rune monsters and unearthed chests have a chance to drop an item called an Exploration Journal. Talk to Dannig in the hideout to open the expedition map in the journal. Place your journal into the bottom slot of this screen, then click “Open Portal.”

Similar to the Waystone map, a logbook portal will appear around the map device and can take you to a slotted exploration map. This is essentially a large-scale exploration event with more than three times the usual number of explosives available.

The Expedition Pinnacle Map system has its own Pinnacle Boss, Olroth. This boss does not always spawn in logbook maps, but the higher the level of the map, the more likely it is to spawn.

If Olos is currently on the Expedition map, a skull will appear on the minimap. Place your explosives optimally to reach this skull and fight Olos.

Defeating Olos is essential to earning Expedition passive skill tree points. Whenever you beat Olroth in Logbooks, you'll get double points. Path of Exile 2 Players can then use them in a special section of the Atlas passive skill tree specifically for this event.

Expedition Passive Skill Tree

The Expedition Passive Skill Tree, located in the Atlas Passive Skill Tree menu, adds modifiers to Expedition events to increase Expedition currency rewards, increase monster spawns, and enhance Remnant effects to provide more rewards.

The Ritual passive skill tree is a glowing blue thing that spirals outward, with eight notable nodes on its arms and eight nodes that increase the difficulty of the logbook (and the Olos boss).

Avoid the ‘Extreme Archeology’ passive. It may seem powerful, especially since it reduces the enemy's health when created. PoE 2 Expedition Event Rewards

Open a unique expedition map to advance your exploration journal

Exploration logs rarely drop from rune monsters and unearthed chests. This log is linked to the Expedition Pinnacle system. Bring the journal to Danig to open the Expedition Map and participate in one of the various exploration zones.

The high-end boss Oroth is less likely to appear on this special expedition map. Defeating Olos grants you double Exploration passive skill tree points, high-tier currency, and a chance to drop one of several exclusive unique items. As you increase the difficulty of your Expedition Map and Journal, Olos will spawn more frequently and drop higher tier rewards upon death.
