Expedition 33 breaks the record for most wins at The Game Awards.

The Game Awards have just wrapped up, and unsurprisingly, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home the win.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home nine awards at The Game Awards, breaking records previously held by Baldur's Gate 3 and The Last of Us Part 2. The last record is 7 wins, with Claire Obsker comfortably ahead.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 made gaming awards history.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won the following categories:

  • game of the year

  • Best Performance (Jennifer English)

  • best narrative

  • Best art direction

  • best game direction

  • best independent games

  • Best Debut Independent Game

  • Best role-playing game

  • best soundtrack

Clair Obscur: There was widespread speculation that Expedition 33 would be a big win. It has already broken the record for the most nominations in a year with 12 nominations. This included three nominations in the Best Performer category, which Jennifer English won.

However, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fails to achieve all of its goals. It was eliminated from Best Audio Design and Players' Voice. The latter was somehow won by Wuthering Waves, which also beat Silksong and Dispatch.

That means it achieved this feat at the Golden Joystick Awards. Here, they swept the show and took home every award they could run for. That means other fan favorites like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 have been left out.

It's interesting to note that, for a very brief moment, Baldur's Gate 3 broke the record for most wins. When the show received its best community support early on, its win total grew to eight, with Clair Obscur taking the lead shortly after beating The Last of Us Part 2. Let's hope there's plenty of room in people's suitcases and Sandfall Interactive's suitcases.

While accepting the Game of the Year award, it was revealed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is now receiving a new update. Includes new levels and photo modes.
