Exclusive Riftbound Unleashed Card Revealed: Vault Breaker

As spoiler season comes to a close for Riftbound's upcoming set, Unleashed, TheGamer took the opportunity to reveal one of the final cards coming from the upcoming set.

If you hit a wall…

Vi Vault Breaker Legend Side By Side Riftbound Unleashed-1

Vault Breaker is a 1 energy, 1 power rage (red) spell with the card text “Action. Give a unit 2 attack and gank this turn.” The card art depicts Vi holding a pair of hextech gauntlets, while the flavor text reads, “When you hit the wall, hit it hard!” This is one of her famous quotes in League of Legends.

Vault Breaker is one of the 10 common Fury cards featured in Unleashed, and considering Red already has so many cheap ways to boost a unit's power, it might be worth it because it gives you Ganking.

For example, in a situation where you occupy a battlefield with a unit and your opponent conquers the battlefield on their turn, you can use Vault Breaker to move your prepared unit from one battlefield to another to score points. It's similar to Ride the Wind, which is situationally cheaper, but it's definitely less versatile than the Chaos (purple) card in that it can be used to sneak points away during your opponent's turn.

The obvious synergy here is with Vi's legendary Piltover Enforcer. “Assigning more than 3 excess damage when conquesting can tire you out preparing your units,” it says. You can conquer a battlefield, tap Vi to ready your units, then play Vault Breaker and move your units to another battlefield to conquer there too. Since the card contains Vi and is named after one of Vi's in-game abilities, the intended synergy is not subtle.

Riftbound's decentralized ruling is hurting the game.

There's no need to dig into old Discord threads to understand interactions.

I think Vault Breaker can be played in very aggressive decks that need to increase the tempo before being “outsized” by control decks. Recycling power can be expensive in the early game, but using Vault Breaker to score 3 points (Conquer, Gank, Conquer and Hold) can make the power cost worth it. It's an exciting time for aggro decks, and that means it's an exciting time for me personally.

We have another card to reveal tomorrow.

It launches in China on April 10th and globally on May 8th. This is the final Riftbound set scheduled for an asynchronous release.
